Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1903, page 63.) Waipawa. —James Campbell, charged with wife-desertion, has been arrested by Constable W. Baskeville, Waipukurau police.
Pahiatua. — Robert Taggart is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description : A native of New Zealand, baker and labourer, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, long thin features, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, small brown moustache only; generally wears dark suit and bard hat; may have a shepherds’ plaid cap. Photograph filed in Inspector’s Office, Wellington. Complainant, Myrtle Amy Webb,Hamua. He is also charged with carnally knowing complainant, who is under age.

Palmerston North. —James McCullough, charged with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child : Warrant cancelled by request of the complainant.

Christchurch. —Thomas Beegan, charged with disobeying an order of Court for the maintenance of his children, has been arrested by Constable T. Gibson, Christchurch police, and sentenced to one month.
Sydney.— Edward Samuel G. Bournes is charged on warrant with wife-desertion at Redfern, Sydney. Description : A carter, twenty-three years of age, 5 ft. 3 in. or 5 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair and moustache, the end of middle right-hand finger has been injured ; dressed in blue sac suit and hard black hat; is said to have come to New Zealand. He was accompanied by Ada Scott, who recently called at the Post-office, Wellington, for letters from Sydney, but no trace can now be obtained of them. Photographs filed in the Commissioner’s Office.
