Horse and Cattle Stealing.
Waipawa. —Thomas Butler, contractor, reports stolen, on the 10th or 11th ultimo, a black trap-mare, aged, about 15J hands high, branded HP (combined) on near shoulder, shod all round, switched tail not very long; value, £25. Identifiable.
(See Police Gazette, 1902, page 260.) Kimbolton. —Alexander Pettigrew’s horses have been found dead.
Mangatainoka. —Margaret Dungan, settler, reports supposed stolen, on the 14th or 15th ultimo, a grey hack mare with black points, slightly wall-eyed, about seven years old, about 14 hands high, shod all round, no visible brands; value, £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to George Cooper, alias Porter. Description : A native of New Zealand, labourer, twenty-nine yeare of age, 5 ft. sfin. high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. Methven. —Steve Tweedy’s horse, saddle, and bridle have been recovered by Constable W. H. Barrett, Sheffield police, and traced to the possession of William Coleman. He is also suspected of theft from Gilbert Henderson at Sheffield, this issue of Gazette under “ Housebreaking ” (see also Police Gazette, 1902, pages 238 and 251). Supposed gone to Christchurch. The mackintosh reported stolen was found on the road.
