Auckland. —Joseph Charles Simmonds, student, reports stolen from a stable at the Three King’s College, between the

28th and 30th ultimo, a gentlemen’s new English saddle with hogskin seat, one of the stirrup-irons slightly bent on top ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Ponsonby (Auckland). —Newton James Waddell reports stolen from his clothes-line, on the 18th or 19th ultimo, a large and a small sheet, a pillow-slip with a peacock worked on it, three handkerchiefs, and a tablecloth ; value, 14s. Identifiable.

Hikurangi. —Allan Tighe’s coat has been recovered, and James Hoey arrested for the offence by Sergeant A. M. Moon and Constable H. Beddek and sentenced to six months’ probation.

New Plymouth.— Robert Charming, alias Arthur Minns, is charged on warrant with the theft, on or about the 21st ultimo, of £4, money of Albert Warren Feek. Description: A native of New Zealand, a labourer, about twenty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 9in. or 10 in. high, medium build, fair complexion, very light fair hair, blue eyes, cleanshaved except reddish moustache, thick lips; dressed in light-brown shabby suit, and brown skull-cap generally worn on back of head. Has been recently working with a railway relaying gang near Wanganui. Offender received a £5 note in mistake for a £1 in payment of 6s. due to him. He obtained change for the £5, and returned complainant 145., and appropriated the remainder.

Mangatainoka. —Abraham Barrell, butcher, report stolen from a shed in his slaughter-yard between the 9th and 14th ultimo, three bullock-hides and three sheep-skins ; value, £3 9s. Not identifiable.

Wellington. —Alfred Bowden, storekeeper, Kaiwarra, reports stolen from his bicycle, in Farish Street, on the 18th ultimo, a Silver King of the Road bicycle-lamp; value, 15s. 6d. Identification doubtful.

Wellington.— On the Bth August last there was forwarded from the General Post Office, Auckland, to Wellington a sealed mail-bag for Hobart, containing a mail-bag 16in. by 13in., stamped in black stencil “PostmasterGeneral, Victoria,” containing 113 registered letters, addressed “ Tattersall, Hobatt”: 103 of them contained postal notes and post-office orders ranging from ss. to £l, payable to “ Tattersall, Hobart.” Tbe bag arrived in Wellington on the 9th August and left by the s.s. “ Waihora” on the 10th. On arrival at Hobart on the 18th August the bag containing the registered letters was missing. Suspicion attaches to the theft having been committed in Wellington. The following postal notes are supposed to be amongst those stolen : Nos. 67300, 68045, 68053, 68058, 68060, 68063, 68065, 68067, 68078, 68081 to 68100, 68104, 68109 to 68117, 68119, 68122 to 68126, 68128 to 68135, for ss. each; No. 48794, for 10s.; and Nos. 30548 to 30557, for 20s. each.

Mount Cook (Wellington).— David Mullane, cabman, reports stolen from his cab, in the yard of the Princess Theatre Hotel, Tory Street, on the 6th ultimo, a nearly new long black-oilskin coat, no cape, collar lined with blue serge ; there is a small tear on the right sleeve : value, £1 ss. Identifiable.

Christchurch. Henry Mason, No. 5, Peterborough Street, reports stolen from outside the Theatre Royal, on the 12th or 13th ultimo, a gentlemen’s New Zealand Rover bicycle, No. 36430, black-enamelled 24 in. frame, rat-trap pedals, Brooks saddle, felt grips; value, £l2. Identifiable.

Christchurch.— Frederick William Pengaley, labourer, No. 303, Tuam Street, reports stolen from the verandah of his house, on the 25th ultimo, a gentlemen’s Waverley bicycle, No. 128309, black-enamelled 22 in. frame, Brooks saddle; value, £9. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —William John Carlisle, shop-assistant, Reed Street, reports stolen from Lichfield Street, on the 19th ultimo, a gentlemen’s Rover bicycle, No. 24614, black-enamelled 24 in. frame, Brooks 28 saddle; value, £2O. Identifiable.

Dunedin.— Stewart Scott, Harry Thompson, and John Larkin report stolen from a building in Arthur Street, on the 24th or 25th ultimo, a 2^in. iron smoothing-plane, a cold-

chisel, a pair of compasses, and a gouge-chisel, the property of Stewart Scott; value, 11s. 9d. A2j in. iron trying-plane branded “ H. Thompson,” a wood-chisel, and a pair of compasses, the property of H. Thompson ; value, 11s. 6d. A carpenter’s kit, a German jack-plane, a bevel, a screwdriver, a gauge (wood, brass-faced), a hammer (“ Chaney’s ”), the property of J. Larkin ; value, 13s. 3d. Supposed identifiable.

Dunedin. Reginald Wallace, alias Brady, is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 24th ultimo, of £lO, the money of Kate Gawne, Douglas Hotel. Description : A native of the colony, about eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, brown hair, fair complexion ; dressed in brown-tweed suit and cap. Was employed as call-boy in Musgrove’s Company. His parents reside in Wellington. He was employed as hotel porter by the complainant, who gave him the above amount to pay a bill, but he failed to do so, and has not been seen since.

Dunedin. —John Douglas, High School, Dunedin, reports stolen from the Commercial Chambers, Crawford Street, between the Ist August last and 19th ultimo, a gentlemen’s Viking bicycle, No. 121, black - enamelled 25 in. frame, Brooks B i() saddle, 7 in. oranbs, B.S.A. fittings, Dunlop tires; value, £ls. Identifiable.

King Street (Dunedin). —Thomas A. Good, hairdresser, reports that on the 27th ultimo his shop was broken into, and the following stolen: A box of Vanity Fair cigarettes, 1 lb. Old Gold, 1 lb. Old Judge, lb. Capstan, and about 21b. tobacco in sticks of different kinds; value, £2 10a. Not identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man who was seen leaving the back of the premises. No description of him can be given, except that he was tall, and wearing an overcoat.

Clinton. —Charles Lahood, hawker, reports stolen from his box between Balclutha and Waipahi, between the 6th and 13th ultimo, three shaving-brushes, two pairs braces, a razor, two pipes, two pairs of scissors, two knives, three purses, a looking-glass, and sundry other articles ; value, £5. Identification doubtful.
