Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Gisborne. — Hubert St. Clair is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Mary St. Clair, sinoe December last. Description : A native of Capa Colony, a shepherd, thirty-two years of age, 5 ft. sJin. high, sallow complexion, stoutish build, short neck, straight nose, F and sword on right arm. (See Police Gazette, 1900, paae 252.) Was last heard of at Feilding in January last. He may attempt to go to Cape Colony under an assumed name.

Hastings. —Andrew McMillan, charged with deserting his wife, has been arrested by Constable J. Forster, Foxton police, on information supplied by Constable Breen, and remanded.

New Plymouth.— Thomas Frederick Richardson is charged on warrant of commitment to the New Plymouth Gaol for one month in default of paying 15s. a week towards the support of his wife and children. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, fair complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, scar over right eye. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 139.) He was an inmate of trie asylum about four years ago. His father resides at Stratford. Arrears due up to the 27th May, 1901, £22 10s.

Description: A native of Auckland, a labourer, twenty-five years of age, sft. 5 in. high, slight build, daik hair, eyes, and complexion, clean-shaved. He was employed at a cordial-factory in Timaru, and was previously employed in a brewery at Hastings.

Oamaeu.— George Henry Selman is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Elizabeth Selman, and ohildren since the 25th April last. Description : A native of England, farmer, forty-six years of age, 5 ft. Gin. high, stout build, dark hair turning grey, full sandy whiskers, small bald patch on left side of head. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 172.) Has a brother and a married sister, Lily Turnbull, residing in Dunedin.

Invercargill —Andrew Hunter is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of bis unborn illegitimate child. Description : A native of Now Zealand, a boiler-maker, about twenty years of age, about 5 ft. 2 in. or Bin. high, stout build, pale complexion, fair hair, dark-grey eyes, flat nose, thick lips, a piece broken off centre tooth in upper jaw, no hair on face, drags his feet when walking; usually wears dark-grey clothes, which are all marked “ A.H.” He was working in a foundry at Invercargill, and left there about the 13th instant. He was in Port Chalmers on the 20th instant. His parents reside in South Dunedin or Caversham. Complainant: Barbara Mullins, Don Street, Invercargill.

Invercargill.— John Lawson is charged on warrant of commitment to Invercargill Gaol for three months in default of finding sureties to obey an order for the maintenance of his wife and children, who are destitute at Winton. Description: A native of New Zealand, a carpenter, horse-trainer, and jockey, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, clean-shaved except heavy drooping light-brown moustache, dark-brown hair, small blue eyes, fresh complexion, pointed chin, large nose, scar on back of neck; usually dresses in blue pilot coat reaching to his knees and Dr. Jim hat.
