Auckland. —John Thomas Mantell, carpenter, reports stolen from his vest, that was hanging in an unfinished building in Queen Street, on the 16th instant, a silver hunting - watch, maker Stewart Dawson, No. 309727; value, £4 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —Frank Jefferies, reports that, on the 9th or 10th instant, his boot-factory, in Alexander Street, was broken into and the followiug stolen : Three pairs of new boots (calf shooters), size 6; one pair has double seams and the others have a single seam at the root of the tongue: value, £1 13s. Identifiable.

Devonport.— William John Green, traveller, reports stolen from the Victoria Wharf, on the 14th instant, a well-worn wickerwork perambulator, new indiarubber tire on one front wheel, crockery handle-bar with brass knobs, brown-leather-ette hood, a slit made with a knife on one side of it, lightcoloured linoleum on the bottom inside ; value, £3. Identifiable.

Kaitata.—George Sulenta reports that between January, 1900, and June last his store at Ahipara was broken into, and the following stolen: Three cheap metal watches, six axes, three wooden pipes, three pairs of spurs, twelve gumknives, three butchers’ knives, five gimlets, two camp-ovens, thirteen girths, a number of tins of condensed milk, a quantity of kauri-gum, and five sacks marked “G. 8.0.,” “ A. 0.,” “W. 1.0.,” “ P.8.C.,” and “W.N.”; also several bottles of tomato-sauce, painkiller, and olive-oil: value, £35.

Marton. —Bonnington and Co., storekeepers, report stolen from their shop door, on the 10th instant, a brownish-coloured tweed suit, size 3; value, £1 Is. Identifiable.

Foxton. —Edward, alias Michael, Moran, charged with theft of overcoat, the property of Roia, has been arrested by Constable J. Forster, Foxton police. Case dismissed.

Wellington.— Georgs Mitchell is oharged on warrant with the theft, on the 18th ultimo, of 145., the money of George Bell, farmer, Karori. Description : Colonial, about twenty-one years of age, about 5 ft. Bin. high, no hair on

face, dark hair, fresh complexion, thick set, stooped shoulders ; dressed in dark clothes, tweed cap. Was engaged by the complainant and collected the above amount for milk supplied aud failed to account for it. Other charges pending.

Wellington.— Henry Mitchell is charged on warrant with the theft, on or about the 25th March last, of a bicycle, the property of John Edward Jenkinson; value, £lO. Description : Colonial, about twenty-four years of age, about 5 ft. 8 in. high, slight build, dark hair and complexion, small dark moustache, sharp features, good appearance and address ; usually wears a dark-blue sac suit, and hard black-felt hat, and was canvassing for the Citizens’ Life Insurance Company. The bicyole was pawned by the offender on the 19th April last, at Smart’s pawn-office, for £3 10s. The bicycle also stolen from Harry Vincent Westbury has been recovered at Barsht’s pawn office, where it was pledged by the above offender for £2 10s. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 149). Offender is also suspected of the theft of a Massey-Harris bicycle, at Wellington (see page 157). Wellington. —Robert Pickford Hatch, fancy-goods dealer, reports that about 1 a.m., 18th instant, the plate-glass window in his shop in Taranaki Street was broken and the following stolen: Two white metal Swiss keyless open-faced watches, two open-faoed whiie-metal watches with glass at the back, a white-metal open-faced Waterbury, a whitemetal open-faced stop-watch, a gilt open-faced stop-watch, a gilt hunting keyless watch, a gun-metal hunting-watch with St. George and the Dragon engraved on back, a blaok-enamelled keyless watch, showing time, month, day, and date; also several articles of small value: value, £7 17s. 6d.

Wellington. —Alfred Baker and James Grant, carpenters, report stolen from an unfinished building in Grant Road, on the 13th or 14th instant, a 6 in. square, an 18 in. bow-saw, a If in. chisel, a 7 in. iron plane, and a pad-saw, branded “A. Baker ” ; value, £l. Also, a carpenter’s kit, containing a try-plane, a hand-saw, a set of bits, a wooden plougnplane, two nail-punches, a fin. bead-plane, three chisels, two compass-saws, and a draw-knife, branded on handle “J. Grant ” ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Manners Street (Wellington).— James Smith and Sons, drapers, Cuba Street, report stolen from their shopdoor, on the 17th instant, a bundle of about eight greyflannelette shirts, with various coloured stripes, “ Kaiapoi ” brand on the neck ; value, £1 Bs. Identifiable.

Christchurch.— Cecil Davis, alias Francis (names probably fictitious), is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 2nd instant, of a gentlemen’s Anglo-Special bicycle, the property of William Hindle, draper, St. Albans; value, £ll 10s. Description : Supposed native of Christchurch, about eighteen years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, very fair complexion, fair hair, small fair moustache, a few fair hairs on chin and neok, scar on left side of throat; dressed in brown saddle-cloth suit and tan boots. Offender had the bicycle in his possession on the 18th instant, but dropped it and ran away. Identifiable by Detective Livingstone, Christchurch police.

Christchurch. —J. G. Moore reports stolen from the sample-room in Sargood, Son, and Ewing’s warehouse, Lichfield Street, between the Ist and 3rd instant, a ladies’ gold Waltham hunting-watch, with plain cases, No. 8506687 on the works, No. 983976 on the case ; value, £5 7s. 6d. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Martin Lock, fireman, reports stolen from the yard of the Lyttelton Times office, Gloucester Street, on the sth or 6th instant, a gentlemen’s Waverley bicycle, 24 in. black-enamelled frame, No. 132340, King of the Road lamp attached ; value £ls ss. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —William Congreve, ironmonger, reports stolen from High Street, on the 10th instant, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled Anglo Special bicycle, No. 1594, wooden handle-bars, 22in. frame; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Christchurch. Robert Houlden, carpenter, reports stolen from Inglis’s building*, on the 29th ultimo, a gentlemen’s 24 in. black-enamelled bicycle, with B.S.A. parts, dropped handles, black grips, white tips, forks wide apart, Brooks saddle, 96 gear, roller chaiD, number unknown, acetylene-lamp attached ; value £2l. Identifiable.

Rangiora. —Messrs. Carmichael and Martin report supposed stolen from them, about the Ist June last, a gentlemen’s Star roadster bioycle, No. 4102, double bars, about a 24 in. frame. Suspicion attached to H. A. Williams, who

obtained the bicyole on the hire system, and may have disposed of it, as he has left the district. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-three years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, and hair inclined to be ourly, no hair on face ; dressed in dark-tweed suit and dark cap. His mother lives in Clarence Street, Ponsonby, Auckland.

Rangiora. —Messrs. Carmichael and Martin report supposed stolen from them, about the Ist June last, a gentlemen’s road-racer Star bicycle, No. 4492, black rims, stripe in centre, very low handles. Suspicion attached to Ernest John Heal, who obtained the bicyole on the hire system, and may have disposed of it. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, about twenty years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, fair complexion and hair, no hair on face; dressed in dark suit. His parents reside in Montreal Street, Christohurch.

Dunedin. — Soren Christian Sorensen is charged on warrant of commitment for two months for theft from the Direct Importing Company at Dunedin Description: A native of Denmark, a salesman, forty-nine years of age, 5 ft. 9Jin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache, blue eyes, dresses well, good appearance ; was employed by toe above company, and prosecuted for a number of thefts, and was sentenced on one charge to two months.

Dunedin.— Walter Loring, charged with theft from Charles Macaudrew Howison. Offender’s defalcations have been found to amount to £337. He has a brother employed on a dredge at Alexandra. Arrest important.
