Auckland. —John Edmonds, charged with having assaulted Peter McElwain, has been arrested by Detectives P. Herbert and J. Mollveney, Auckland police, and sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment.

Auckland.— James McQuoid, charged with default of fine for drunkenness and negligently driving a horse and cart, has been arrested by Constable G. Keep, Eden Terrace police, and lodged in Mount Eden Gaol.

Paekoa.— George McNeil is charged with false pretences on John Woolanora Thorp, settler, on the 25th ultimo. Description: Supposed native of Newcastle, New South Wales, twenty nine years of age but looks younger, about 5 ft. sin. high, pale complexion, fair hair, clean-shaved, flat nose as if broken, turns his toes in when walking ; dresses in black-oloth suit, soft black-felt hat, and carries a red-blanket swag. He obtained £5 from Mr. Thorp, by whom he was employed, by falsely representing that the money was for a girl named Pigott, who had a child by him, which was untrue.

New Plymouth. —John Rock, charged with absconding from his apprenticeship with Hal Goodacre, has been arrested by Constable W. Buttimore, New Plymouth police, and has returned to his employment.

Mount Cook (Wellington).— Cecil Payne is charged on warrant with being a rogue and a vagabond. Description : Colonial, a labourer, about twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 8J in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, moustache only, blue eyes, rather good looking; emblem tattooed on left arm ; dressed in dark-tweed sac suit and black-felt hat; an associate of thieve 3. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 32.) He was summoned to the S.M. Court, Wellington, on the 21st instant, but failed to appear. He may have gone south, as his parents reside at Gebbie’s Valley, near Christchurch.
