Auckland.— William Henry Noss is charged with forgery on or about the 20th May, 1901. Description : Supposed English, a commercial traveller, forty-five years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, nearly bald on top of head, fair beard, whiskers and moustache clipped short and turning grey, speaks with a nasal twang ; usually dressed in black morn-ing-coat and silk hat. Offender was co-trustee with A. J. Watkins in the estate of J. W. Hemus, and received a crossed cheque for £26 95., signed by himself and Mr. Watkins, in favour of “ Lamb and Co., Wellington.” Instead of forwarding the cheque he altered it by writing the words “ Pay cash,” and appropriated the money.

Auckland.— Puhipi Matui, alias Busby Matthews, is charged on warrant with false pretences on William Henry Whitehead. Description: A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty years of age, stout build, 5 ft. 8J in. high, copper complexion, black hair, dark-brown eyes, flat nose. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 77.) Offender obtained board and lodgings for a week, value £1 55., by falsely representing that Andrews and Sons had signed a note requesting that he would be supplied with board and lodgings.

Auckland.— Edward Boyle is charged on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Gaol for seven davs in default of paying £1 6s. for threatening behaviour at Auckland on the 6th March last. Descripion : A native of Scotland, a miner, thirty years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, tattoo-mark between thumb and forefinger of left hand, scar on joint of right thumb.

Auckland. —Henry Samuel Currie, or Curry, charged with theft from the Postmaster-General, has been arrested by Constable P. J. McCarthy, Onehunga police.

Wanganui.— Kenneth West, charged with obscene language and breach of the peace, has been arrested by Constable W. J. Campbell, Wanganui police, and lodged in the Wanganui Gaol.

Hawera. —William George Haywood Goddard now states that he could not identify the man, name unknown, who uttered the cheque to him purporting to be signed by W. Reynolds.

Wellington. — Howard Patton Gandy is charged on warrant with having, on the 22nd June, 1901, forged a cheque for £2O, purporting to be signed by Sarah Mitchell, and uttered the same to Arthur B. Pownall. Offender is nineteen years of age, a labourer, 5 ft. lOf in. high, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, medium build. Supposed left by s.s. “ Mokoia ” on 22nd June last for Sydney.

Wellington. — Hugh McFarlane is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for six months in default of finding sureties for assault on his wife. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, thirty-four years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. He was last seen at Wellington on the Bth instant. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 107.)

Woodville. —H. E. Adler, charged with false pretences on Edwin Gallichan, has been arrested by Constable T. J. Drake, Ormondville police, and remanded.

Addington. —George Stephens, charged with assaulting Constable P. Ryan, has been arrested by Constable M. McKeefry, Belfast police.

Tapanui. — James Meech, alias Cole, is charged on warrant with having used obscene language at Tapanui on 3rd May, 1901. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, about twenty-five years of age, sfc. 8 in. high, medium build, small fair moustache only, clipped short; dressed in shabby tweed suit and dark soft-felt hat. Supposed rabbiting on some of the stations.

Dunedin. — John Currie is charged on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Gaol for seven davs in default of paying £1 35., fine and costs, for breach of the peace. Description : A native of New Zealand, a groom and labourer, twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, slight build, sallow complexion, brown hair, bazel eyes ; generally dressed in dark suit. (See Police Gazette , 1896, page 163). He was fined on the 30th March last, and allowed time to pay; wa3 at Gore, but left there on the Ist May last for Invercargill.

Melbourne. —John Henry Sparks and John O’Connor escaped from Pentridge during the forenoon of Tuesday, the 3rd instant. Description : First —A native of South Australia, a labourer, twenty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, medium build, scar on right side of nose, scar right cheek, moles on small of back, boil-marks on ngnt hip, clean-shaven, hair of head out short, mouth appears crooked, slightly higher on left side. Was arrested on the 14th December, 1899, for highway robbery under arms at Rutherglen, aud is under sentence of ten years. Is a good horseman. Second —Victorian, a labourer, thirty-two years of age, 5 ft. 9Jin. high, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, hazel eyes, anchor and blue dots under lower right arm, scar top of right thumb, scar on left wrist, blue dot on left arm, clean-shaven, hair on head cut short. Was arrested in August, 1894, for highway robbery under arms at A bert Park, and storebreaking in Melbourne, and is under sentence of twelve years. Both men are desperate criminals, and will be wearing civilians’ clothes. Photographs filed in the Commissioner’s Office.
