Auckland.— Robert Mathew Barr, baker, reports stolen from a portmanteau in his bedroom at McKeown’s, Queen Street, on the 27th or 28th ultimo, two £1 notes, eighteen

sovereigns, a half-sovereign, and about 10s. in silver. Not identifiable. Suspicion attached to Henry Clarke, who was also in the employ of McKeown, and occupied the same room. Description: A native of New Zealand, about eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, thin build, pale oomplexion, delicate appearance, very fair hair, large feet, slovenly gait; dressed in dark clothes, cotton shirt, with collar attached, no tie, dark skull-cap; has two false upper front teeth.

Devonpobt. —Walter Combes, carpenter, reports stolen from his dwelling, Lake Road, a black blouse, and a skirt with vertical stripes, a black-crepe cape of dress material, bead trimming, black fur round the neck; a faded pink flannelette night-dress, embroidered on neck and sleeves, and twelve pennies : total value, 14s.

Pobo-o-tabao.— John Smythe, labourer, reports stolen from him at Ongaruhe when drunk, on the 2nd or 3rd instant, four £5, and seventeen £1 notes, numbers unknown, wages of the co-operative gang he was working with.

Te Aeoha. —Henry J. Cashel, commercial traveller, reports stolen from the Palace Hotel on tho Ist or 2nd instant, a nearly new dark-blue cloth waterproof overcoat, cream coloured flannel lining with blue and yellow squares, has five outside pockets with flaps, eyelet holes under arms, two different pattern buttons on inside of breast of ooat to fasten the throat guard when not in use, black velvet collar : value, £5.

Te Aeoha. —George L. Evans, Queen Street, Auckland, reports stolen from the Palace Hotel, on the Ist or 2nd instant, a black silk umbrella, handle resembling “P,” silver band had been on the horizontal portion of handle: value, £l.

McD.” on inside of case; value, £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Sydney Hunter, porter and boots at the hotel, a native of New Zealand, twenty-one years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, pale oomplexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes. Wellington. —Philip Gaffney, labourer, reports stolen from his room in Curtis’s boardinghouse, on the 4th instant, a waterproof coat (recovered); value, £2. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who sold the coat on the above date for 6s. at Barsht’s pawn-office, Newtown. Suspect is about twenty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, slight build, dark complexion hair and moustache; dressed in dark-blue coat and vest, grey trousers frayed at bottoms, and a blue-black skull-cap.

Wellington. —Mrs. A. B. Sherwood reports stolen from her at the Queen’s Wharf, on the Ist instant, a brown croco-dile-leather purse, about 4 in. by 2 in., heavy silver-mounted, “A.B. S. 1896 ” engraved on it; several compartments, containing visiting cards, two sovereigns, £1 15s. in silver, and a very heavy plain gold ring with “R. E. S.” engraved on it: total value, £6.

Wellington. —Frederick Warskiss, porter, reports stolen from the Club Hotel on the 25th ultimo, a black waterproofcoat, cape attached with buttons, plaid lining, sleeves frayed at the cuffs ; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.

The stolen articles have been recovered at Fruhauf’s pawn-office, and were pledged by a man who gave the name of C. Hunter. Description: About twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, slight build, dark complexion, hair and moustache, two of upper front teeth project, and a third one has a large hole in it. Is supposed identical with a man, name unknown, suspected of theft of Phillip Gaffney’s coat, at Wellington, on the 10th instant.

Mannebs Stbeet (Wellington). —Robert James McKee, engineer, reports stolen from his bedroom in Peroival’s boarding-house, Ingestre Street, on the Ist instant, two pairs of tan shoes, size 8, a blue Manchester coat, padded shoulders, a button missing at top; a Swiss watch, No. 49471, a rolled-gold square-link chain attached; value, £4 17s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man riame unknown, who stopped at the house on the Ist instant. Description: About twenty-three years of age, about 5 ft. 11 in. high, slight build, small dark moustache, long pale features ; dressed in very baggy grey trousers, black coat and vest, boots nearly worn out. Said he came from Christchurch.

Clyde Quay (Wellington). Frederick Hafstrom, labourer, reports stolen from Mrs. Blane’s boarding-house, No. 6, Courtenay Place, on the 7th instant, a brown Dr. Jim hat (recovered); value, 10s. 6d. Suspicion attached to a man name unknown, who was seen by Mrs. Blane leaving the house with the hat on. It was pawned on the above date with W. Hindes, Manners Street, by suspect. Description : About nineteen years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, slight dark moustache only, dark hair and complexion; dressed in dark coat, light trousers, black-and-white check cap; limps when walking. Identifiable.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —Alice Hook, servant, reports that on the 20th ultimo Mr. Wilson’s house, 20, Vivian Street, was broken into, and the following stolen from her bedroom: A black leather purse, about 4 in. by 2Jin., fastened at the side, has three compartments, and contained £1 15s. in silver; four midget photographs of a woman friend ; “ Miss A. Hook, 20, Vivian Street,” in ink on flap of purse : value, £1 18s. 6d.

Nelson. —William Henry Redwood, brewer, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 27th ultimo, a gentleman’s openfaced Waltham watch, No. 16493 on inner case, a silver chain with twisted links and medal attached, with “ William Henry Redwood ” engraved thereon : value, £2 10s.

Chbistchuech.— Samuel Garforth, dairyman, Lincoln Road, reports stolen from his dwelling on the 25th ultimo, a ladies’ gold open-faced Rotherham watch, No. 92643, monogram “ G.P.G.” engraved on case, “ Graoe Garforth ” scratched on inside of case with a pin: value, £B.

Chbistchuech. —John Kelly, labourer, St. Albans, reports stolen from him in the Albion Hotel, on the Ist instant, a silver hunting lever watch (recovered); value, £5. Suspicion attached to H. Wheeler (name supposed fictitious), who pawned the watch at Shrimpton’s for 10s. on the 7th instant. Description : About twenty-four years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, slight build, thin features, clean shaved, except small red moustache, dressed in dark clothes.

Milton. —Alexander MoCorkindale reports stolen from his hut at Canada Reefs, between the Ist and 3rd instant, two grey-flannel shirts, two pairs knitted drawers, a lightcoloured flannelette shirt, a pair of grey saddle-tweed trousers, all a little worn : value, £1 3s. 9d.
