Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Auckland. — John Black is charged on warrant of commitment for two months for disobeying an order of Court to pay £1 a week towards the support of his wife. Description : A native of Scotland, a blacksmith, fifty-six years of age, 5 ft. in. high, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes. The order was made on the 29th September, 1900, in Christchurch, and there was due on the 9th February last the sum of £ls.

Auckland. —William Ernest Gunthorpe, oharged with default of maintenance, has been arrested by Constable GHarris, Mangaweka police, on information received from Constable J. Bree, and remanded to Auckland.
Levin. — Albert Henry Banks is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child. Description: A native of New Zealand, a labourer, nineteen years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, fair complexion and hair, grey eyes, dressed in dark-tweed suit, skull cap. Supposed come to Wellington about the 28th ultimo, and may attempt to leave the colony. Complainant, Elizabeth Fanny Hopkins, Levin.
Wellington. — Patrick Dooley is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay 2s. 6d. a week towards the support of his father. Description : A native of New Zealand, a plumber and labourer, thirty-one years of age, sft. Tin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, fair moustache only ; usually wears datk sacsuit and soft-felt hat. Left Wellington about March last.
Mount Cook (Wellington). David Livingstone McWirter is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Ethel McWirter, since the 10th May last. Description: A native of Scotland, a coach-painter, twenty-six years of age, 5 ft. 8J in. high, stout build, ruddy complexion, light-brown hair, clean - shaved except brown moustache; may be dressed in a fawn, a dark, or a grey suit, and soft black hat; he had been employed for some time by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, and left on the 10th ultimo, taking his wages and money his wife had, saying he was going up-country to do some painting. It is thought he may attempt to leave the colony.
Greymouth. — Daniel Rugg is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Margaret Rugg, since the 21st May, 1901. Description: A native of Kumara, a bus-driver and stablehand, twenty-three years of age, 5 ft. 7in. or Sin. high, full, ruddy features, brown hair, small moustache only, brown eyes, bright expression, smart, active appearance; dressed in dark-tweed trousers, fawn-coloured coat, blaok hard hat. Will probably make for Wellington or Auckland.
Christchurch. — Albert Hulme is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for one month for disobeying an order of Court to pay 15s. a week for the maintenance of his wife, Ocean Hulme. Description: A native of New Zealand, a baker, twenty-eight years of age, 5 ft. in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, first finger of right hand injured (see Police Gazette, 1901, page 32). On the 16th Maroh last there was due the sum of £lB 15s.

Temuka. —James Findlay, jun., oharged with disobeying an order of Court for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, has been arrested by Acting-Detective A. Cameron, Wellington police.
Palmerston. — James Moffatt is charged on warrant with failing to provide for his illegitimate child. Description : A native of New Zealand, about twenty-four years of age, a carpenter, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, stoutish build, fair hair and complexion, clean shaved except fair moustache ; generally wears a light-grey tweed suit and Dr. Jim hat; worked about six months ago for a burlder in Dunedin.
