Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Wanganui.— George Lawson is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court to pay 10s. a week towards the support of his illegitimate child. Description: A native of New Zealand, about twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, slight build, rather pale complexion, dark-brown hair and moustache, dark eyes. Said to be working on the tramways at Auckland. The sum of £7 3s. 6d. was due and in arrears on the 19th August.

Wellington. — Thomas Trudgeon is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol for two months’ labour for disobeying am order of Court for the support of his wife and two children. Description : English, a labourer, fifty-nine years of age, 5 ft. 7Jin. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark-grey hair, shaved except dark moustache, cast in one eye. Wellington. — James Oliver Armstrong, charged on warrant of commitment for disobeying an order of Court to support his wife : Offender was arrested on the 19th ultimo at Gore, Southland, for drunkenness, under the name of James Obrey. On the following day he went to Stirling, and thence to Kaitangata, but no further trace of him can be obtained. He was dressed in a brown check-tweed coat, black trousers, and Dr. Jim hat.

Wellington. — Alexander McGregor is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Martha Matilda McGregor, at Petone, since the 21st October, 1897. Description: A native of America, a bootmaker, about fifty-two years of age, about 6 ft. high, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair turning grey, also beard whiskers and moustache when he left Petone, large wart on left temple, left little finger crooked ; fond of drink and gambling. Last heard of at Hawera about eighteen months ago. His wife and family are quite destitute.

Christchurch.— William Taylor is charged on warrant with failing to maintain his illegitimate child since the Ist January, 1899. Description : Scotch, a farmlabourer, twenty-three years of age, sft. 7in. or 8 in. high, fa’r complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, shaved except fair moustache, strongly marked eyebrows meeting above the nose, stout build, rather round-shouldered, stoops when walking ; usually wears a soft brown-felt hat with wide rim ; pla)S the accordeon and violin. He wrote from Napier on the llih June last, and previous to that date resided at Hiilena Farm, near Balolutha. Complainant, Helen Mclntyre, 104, Park Terrace, Christchurch.
