Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

Warkworth.—Stolen, on the 26th instant, a dark-bay horse, aged, 14 hands high, had a long tail, which is now said to be cut short, brand (not described).on one shoulder, hole on outside of one forefoot; value, £6; the property of William Henry Glenney, Auckland. It is said to have been ridden in the direction of Auckland by a boy named George Smith, fifteen years of age, medium build, dark hair and eyes, sallow complexion, small for age.

Woodville. — Robert Davis, Kumeroa, reports stolen from a paddock at Woodville, about the 25th December last, a chestnut trap-mare, 16 hands high, nine years old, shod all round, branded T on near shoulder, one hind foot white; value, £ls. Supposed to have been taken away from the district.

Eketahuna.— A man, name unknown, is charged on warrant with theft, on the 28th ultimo, of a dark-bay mare, medium hack, seven years old, small star on forehead, shod all round, about 15 hands 3in. high, no brands, a mark round the arm of off fore leg, a good trotter, broken to saddle and harness ; a half-worn saddle, recently stuffed, with horseshoe pattern stirrup-irons ; and a nearly new bridle : value, in all, £ls 10s. : the property of Stephen Harding, liverystable keeper. Offender is about twenty-four years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, lame on right leg, as though broken at knee or thigh; dressed in a dark-tweed suit. He hired the mare for the expressed purpose of going to Pahiatua and returning on the same day, but has not been seen since. The above is the best description that can be given of him, as he was not closely observed at the time.

Geraldine. —George Cross, Orari Flat, reports stolen, on the 31st ultimo, a heavy draught mare, dark chestnut with darker points, four or five years old, about 17 hands high, white blaze down face coming to a point near nose, full eyes, hollow in bone under off one, tail docked, splint on outside of off fore-leg below knee, brands (if any) unknown, hair rubbed off belly in a long narrow strip, shod all round, good action, had a headstall on when last seen ; value, £2l.

Waikaia. —John Thornton, Winding Creek, reports stolen, between the 15th October last and 4th instant, two cows, one red with red calf at foot, the other having a white face and body and red neck ; two red heifers, one with a white face; and three red steers, one having a white face; all branded JT (conjoined) on right rump, except the calf; value, £24 10s. Suspicion is attached to James Muirhead Peart, a rabbiter on the Otama Run. He has been committed for trial on charges of theft and housebreaking, and admitted to bail.
