Requisitions not to be treated as Sub-vouchers. (Circular No. 12/95.) It is notified for general information and guidance that the column for “ Sub-voucher No.” in Treasury vouchers is intended solely for the numbers of receipts for money supporting the voucher itself, and the numbers of requisitions must not be inserted therein. Receipts are, however, only required for amounts in excess of ss. (vide Treasury Regulation, No. 97). A. Hume, Commissioner of Police.
Railway Fares of Witnesses attending Supreme or District Ccnirts to be recovered. (Circular No. 13/95.) It having been observed that, in many instances, members of the force when travelling by rail to attend as witnesses at the Supreme or Districts Courts have neglected to obtain from the Registrars a refund of the costs of the tickets for which requisitions have been issued, the attention of Inspectors in charge of districts is called to the matter, with the view of their taking the necessary steps to obtain refunds. This circular will also apply to cases in which requisitions are issued to civilian witnesses attending the above Courts. A. Hume, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 18th October, 1895.
Rewards
Constable M. McKeefry, No. 512, Greymouth police, has been awarded £5 by the Borough Council in recognition of his prompt action in extinguishing a fire at Hannan’s Hotel. (95/1367.) Constable W. A. Brookes, No. 542, Bluff police, has been awarded £1 by the Customs Department for services rendered in securing a still discovered in the bush on the 29th ultimo. (95/589.) Detectives L. I). Benjamin, No. 208, and W. Maddern, No. 471, Christchurch police, have been awarded £1 each by the Customs Department for services rendered in securing the conviction of J. Kirby for smuggling tobacco, at Lyttelton, on the 9th ultimo. (95/589.) Constable P. J. Dunne, No. 127, Mangonui police, has been awarded 10s. by the Customs Department for services rendered in obtaining the conviction of G. Williams for a breach of the Beer Duty Act. (95/589.) Constable W. M. Jones, Auckland police, has been awarded £8 for arresting Michael Walsh, a deserter from H.M.S. “Rapid.” (95/933.) Constable J. Smith, No. 648, Wellington police, has been awarded £3 for arresting a straggler from H.M.S. “ Ringarooma.” (95/886.)

Inspector of Sea-fishing at Bluff appointed. Marine Department, Wellington, 14th October, 1895. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased, in pursuance of the power and authority vested by subsection (2) of section 6 of “ The Sea-fisheries Act, 1894,” to appoint
Patrick McGrath, of Bluff, Police Sergeant, to be an Inspector of Sea-fishing under the above-mentioned Act.
