Carterton. —Frank Feist reports stolen from the Lyceum Hall, on the 3rd instant, a fawn-coloured covert-coat, two rows of stitching on edge of cuffs, of different coloured silks and irregular; value, £3. Suspicion attached to a man named Spackman, supposed English, twenty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, dark complexion and hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache, broad shoulders, two front teeth missing, wore grey-tweed suit and light-felt hat with broad brim. Suspect offered an overcoat for sale on the 3rd instant, and has not been seen since. No warrant.

Carterton. Arthur Reynolds reports stolen from the Lyceum Hall, on the 3rd instant, a dark-tweed overcoat with cape, check pattern; value, £2. Suspicion attached to the man named Spackman referred to in the preceding notice.

Danevirke. —James McNaughton, shepherd, Mangatoro Station, reports stolen from the dray of W. Smith, carrier, on the Weber Road, on the sth or 6th instant, a new dark-tweed sac-coat, small white specks through material, two outside breast-pockets and two side-pockets with flaps, and an inside breast-pocket on left side; and a vest to match; sleeves of coat and vest lined with light-coloured material with small black stripe : value, £3 10s.

Picton. —Albert Rodley, hairdresser, reports that, on the 28 th or 29th ultimo, his shop was broken into, and the following stolen: A new pea-rifle, number and maker unknown, a six-chambered bull-dog revolver, fifty revolver cartridges, a Waterbury watch, a silver albert chain, some cigars, and “ Three Castle ” cigarettes, four tennis balls, and a pack of cards ; total value, £7 16s. 6d.

Lyell. —Cow Look and Wong Hee, goldminers, Matakitaki, report stolen from their sluice-boxes, on the 26th ultimo, a quantity of washdirt, containing about 4oz. of gold ; value, £ls Bs.

Christchurch. —Stealing Edmund Hugh Coma’s cart, saddle, and breeching. George Prebble has been arrested by Detective L. D. Benjamin for this offence, and sentenced to one month’s labour. Stolen property recovered, and traced by Constable J. Dougan to offender’s possession.

Dunedin. —James Wyper, Sandymount, reports stolen from a coach at the Criterion Hotel Stables, Dunedin, on the Bth instant, a dark-tweed overcoat with cape, browncheck pattern, nearly new ; value, £2 10s.
