Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Auckland. Thomas G. Petty is charged on warrant of commitment to the Auckland Gaol for six months in default of paying £8 12s. towards the maintenance of his two children. Description: Colonial, a labourer, thirty-eight years of age, slight build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes.

Paeroa. —William Dixon is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child by Hannah Pennell. Description : Colonial, a jockey, about twenty-three years of age, about sft. 6in. high, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache only, grey or light-blue eyes, smart appearance; usually wears a dark suit and black hard-felt hat. Was seen in Auckland on the 23rd August last. His brother works for the Hon. J. D. Ormond, at Hastings.

Napier. —George Bristowe is charged on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child by Margaret Doel. Description : Colonial, a waiter, thirty years of age, sft. lOin. high, slight build, dark complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache trimmed short, generally wears a dark heavy sac-suit, and a brown cap or green-coloured soft-felt hat. His relatives reside in Auckland, and he is well known there and in Wellington as Walter Bentley’s advance agent.

Napier. —Abraham Hazlett is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Court, to pay £1 per week for the support of his wife, Emily Hazlett. Description : Supposed English, a butcher, about thirty-three years of age, about sft. lOin. high, medium build, dark hair, clean-shaved except dark heavy moustache, generally dressed in a dark sac-coat and vest, light trousers, and hard black felt hat. He was accompanied by a woman about twenty-live years of age, of medium build and height. On the 26th August last he was £ll in arrears.

Napier. —Andrew Cavanagh is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Court to pay ss. per week for the support of his mother. Description : A native of Napier, a baker, twenty-nine years of age, sft. Bin. high, dark hair, brown eyes, broad shoulders, good appearance, clean shaved except moustache, fond of smiling and showing his teeth ; wore a dark-tweed suit. Last heard of at Bulls. He was £3 ss. in arrears on the sth August last.

Christchurch. —Herbert Thomas, charged with disobeying an order of the Court for die support of his illegitimate child, has been arrested by Constable P. McGill, Addington police, and sent to Lyttelton Gaol.

Rakaia.— Joseph Brimmicombe is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child by Emma Murray. Description: A native of New Zealand, twenty-five years of age, sft. lOin. high, strong build, fair complexion and hair, small fair moustache, otherwise clean shaved, scar above and below left eye, one front upper tooth broken, left arm crooked ; dressed in grey-tweed coat and vest, navy-blue trousers and light-coloured soft-felt hat. Has relatives in Christchurch, Wellington, and Pahiatua.

Temuka. —Thomas Radford is charged on warrant with neglecting to contribute towards the support of his illegitimate child by Alice Tawdry. Description: A native of New Zealand, twenty-three years of age, sft. Sin. or 9in. high, slight build, thin features, black hair, shaved except small black moustache, slightly bow-legged; generally wears a black suit, and hard black-felt hat; is likely to be working among horses. He was at Peilding in February last.

Waikaia. William Braithwaite is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Court to pay 3s. 6d. per week towards the support of his illegitimate child by Mary Ann Rowley. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-two years of age, about sft. 9in. high, medium build, pale sallow complexion, very small fair moustache only, fair hair, left eye blue, has lost the right eye; wore a dark-brown tweed suit and soft drab hat; slovenly appearance, and inclined to be round-shouldered. His mother lives on a small farm between Port Chalmers and Waitati. The sum of £l6 Is. 6d. was in arrears on the 4th September last.
