Manaia. —Stealing from the dwelling of Rhody Slattery, senior : The suspect’s correct name is Thomas Hannan, not Hannerman, and he is identical with Thomas Hannam, described in Police Gazette, 1894, page 90. It is thought he may have sent some of the chains to his sisters at Christchurch, or to a Miss Lawry, in the same city.

Hastings. —Samuel Ridgeway, clothier, reports that, on the 23rd ultimo, his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen: Four £1 notes, a sovereign, £1 in silver, one dozen boys’ flannelette shirts, with collars, Zealandia brand ; three or four pairs of tweed trousers (one pair dark-grey saddle-tweed, size 7, marked 18s. 6d.); one dozeu small white Turkish towels, linked by fringe in twos; a suit of men’s tweed clothing, size 5, “ Zealandia ” on tab of coat; three white- and two blue-silk ties; two white shirts with collars, Zealandia brand; two pink and two grey flannels ; three pairs of light-grey natural wool drawers ; an old comb and brush; and a pair of laced boots, much worn, size 7 : total value, about £ls. Shirts, flannels, and drawers identifiable by private marks.

Paeroa. —John O’Connell, labourer, Waitekauri, reports stolen from him while drunk, on the 14th ultimo, a silver hunting Waltham watch, No. 2677476; value, £5 10s.

Eketahuna. —Henry O’Louglan reports stolen from his clothing during a fire at the Railway Hotel, on the 7th ultimo, a silver Waltham double-cased keyless watch, No. 4165842, “Jerome” written inside back case, top of winder worn and looks like brass, value £4 10s.; and a silver albert guard, long plain and twisted links alternately, value £1 10s.

Sheffield. —Breaking into and stealing from the dwelling of John William Ward and Jonathan Ward: George Maclaine and Frederick Blyth, alias John Henry Lewis, have been arrested for this offence by Constables P. McGill and R. W. Shepherd, Christchurch police, and committed for trial. The blue-serge coat and vest, pair of light tweed trousers, and soft white-felt hat (the property of John W. Ward! have been recovered.

Hampden (Oamaru). —John Young, labourer, Maheno, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 16th ultimo, a new darktweed coat with some brown colour running through it, a pepper- and salt-coloured vest, well-worn, and a pair of trousers of a lighter material than vest, all size 5; value, £2. Suspicion attached to a swagger, supposed Irish, about sixty years of age, medium size, fair complexion, hair turning grey; identifiable.

Hampden (Oamaru). —Stealing Robert G. Tubman’s coat: Richmond Momo (a Maori) has been arrested for this offence by Constable E. Egan, Temuka police, and remanded to Hampden. Coat found in his possession.

Ashburton. —J. N. Hamer’s watch has been recovered, and traced to the possession of Joseph Morris, who has been arrested by Detective L. B. Benjamin, Christchurch police. Offender was convicted and discharged.

Ashburton. —Frederick Fraser, or Mitchell, charged with stealing blankets and underclothing, the property of Henry Davis (recovered), has been arrested by Detective T. Livingston, Timaru police, assisted by a report from Constable Beddek. Offender is also charged with theft at Timaru, and has been remanded.
