Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Auckland. Morris Copeland, grocer, Manukau Road, reports that, on the 9tli or 10th instant, his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : About 301 b. of Derby tobacco, a box of Old Judge cigarettes, half a box of Three Castles ditto, and about £1 10s. in cash; total value, £ll 4s.

Helensville. —George Sydney Smith, Pipitiwai, reports stolen from his stable, on the 7th or Bth instant, two saddles—one English, in good repair, with new leather girth, new stirrup - leathers, square nickel stirrup - irons ; the other, colonial-made, nearly new, similar irons (one twisted), one of the stirrup-leathers cut near the top, leather girth ; also two bridles, one new, with old iron snaffle-bit, single reins; the other nearly new, with white front, and nickel bit: value, in all, £B.

Onehunga. —The Railway Department reports, that on the 30th ultimo, the station was broken into, the safe forced open, and £8 7s. 9d. in cash and a dark-enamelled brooch, oval shape, with silver edge and stone in centre, stolen. The property of the Now Zealand Government.

Onehunga. —Stealing from the Onehunga Woollen Company’s Factory : William Wedston, alias Archibald McNair, has been arrested for this offence by Detective W. L. Chrys-

tal, Auckland police, on information supplied by Constable F. Beattie, of Paeroa, and committed for trial. Stolen property, except one rug, recovered.

New Plymouth —The Railway Department reports stolen from a truck, on the 27th ultimo, a case of Usher’s whiskey, marked 177, U over 958, Special over 285 in a triangle over Wellington ; value, £3 6s.

New Plymouth. —The Postal Department reports stolen from the railway-station, between 10 p.m. on the 19th and 7 a.m. on the 20tli ultimo, a mail-bag, marked “Onehunga, WRTPO, North,” containing a few letters.

Opunaki. —David Leahy, farmer, Eltham Road, reports stolen from off his saddle, on the 31st ultimo, a pair of stirrup-leathers, nearly new, holes numbered, with three-bar nickel-plated irons ; value, 10s.

Waverley.— During the night of the sth instant the Town Hall was broken into, and the following stolen : A diaper tray-cloth, 3ft. by 2Jft., marked “ Neweombe ” on one corner; a diaper apron, trimmed with lace ; three large biscuit-tins, labelled “Elmslie”; a 51b-box of tea, branded “ Nelson, Moate, and Co.” ; about 201 b sugar ; a quantity of cakes, &c.; and three silver teaspoons (since found) : value, about £5. The property of the managers of the Presbyterian Church.

Turakina (Marton). — Thomson and Scott reports stolen from their shop, on the 10th instant, four pairs of boots—viz. : one pair colonial-kip bluchers, size 9; one pair split-kip bluchers, size 9 ; one pair females’ calf long-lace, size 9 ; and one pair of army boots : value, £2 10s. 6d.

Gisborne. —George Armstrong Beere, surveyor, reports stolen from off the Waimata Road, between the 30th ultimo and the 4th instant, a hog-skin saddle, in good order, whitemetal stirrup-irons, thick brown-felt saddle-cloth ; and a single-reined bridle, with metal bit, brass buckles, and fore-head-band of plaited leather; “George Beere” stamped on inside of saddle-flaps, and on the bridle: value, £6 18s.

Palmerston North. —Charles Owen, milkman, Rangitikei Street, reports stolen, on the 31st ultimo, an old colonialmade saddle, newly seated, with green-hide girth; value, £2 10s.

Wellington. —Halley and Ewing, Courtenay Place, report that, during the night of the 29th ultimo, their sash-and-door factory was broken into, and the following stolen : A Waterbury clock, three gouges two ljin. one Jin., a square, screw-driver, eight chisels, assorted sizes (four made by Ward); three hand saws (one marked AW), a new Diston’s handsaw, three planes, and an oilstone; value, £3.

Christchurch. —Breaking into and stealing from Thomas Armstrong’s shop : the mackintosh, three pairs of trousers, and black coat and vest have been traced to the possession of George Stanton and John Wilson, who have been arrested for this offence by Detective William Maddern and Constable Marsack, Christchurch police. The remainder of the property has not been recovered. Stanton has been committed for trial, and Wilson discharged.

Christchurch. —Edmund Hugh Coma, Spreydon, reports stolen from his stable, between the 27th ultimo and 2nd instant, a cart-horse saddle and breeching, nearly new, some of the buckles marked “ Farmers’ Co-operative Stores ”; value, £3.

Dunedin. —Donald M. Stuart reports stolen from the gymnasium, at the Boys’ High School, on the 22nd ultimo, an English silver lever hunting watch, glass broken, DMS on outer case ; value, £4.

Nelson. —Arthur William Stallard and Horace McCabe, tobacconists, Trafalgar Street, report that, during the night of the 7th instant, their shop was broken into, and the following stolen : Four boxes “ La Collection ” cigars, a box each of Windsor and Henry Clay cigars, a morocco case containing an amber cigarette- and cigar-holder, ninety packages of Three Castle, Old Judge, Nestor Giameles, and Vanity Fair cigarettes; eleven scarf-pins, different designs; ten imitation silver watch-guards, two silver-mounted briar-root pipes, in morocco case ; two £1 notes, bank and numbers unknown ; about £1 in silver and coppers, a ss. piece which has been gilded and will bear a trace of same: total value, £ll 6s.
