Dunedin. —Frederick Thomas Horne is charged on warrant with having, on the 14th August, 1895, embezzled £IOO, money of the Dunedin Finance, Loan, and Agency Company (Limited). Description : English or Colonial, about thirtyfour years of age, rather stout, square build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, and short heavy dark moustache only ; respectable appearance ; generally wears a dark-tweed sac-suit and hard black hat. Offender, who was employed as clerk to the company, received the above amount, and converted it to his own use. His defalcations amount to over £I,OOO. He was also secretary to the St. Clair Trotting Club, and is pretty well known to racing men. His wife and child reside at Caversham, and he will no doubt endeavour to leave the colony. Arrest important.

Wairoa (Hawke’s Bay). —Breaking a pane of glass, and threatening the life of Constable W. Ccughlan: John Crimin and Philip Kirrin have been arrested for this offence, and discharged.

Auckland.— William T. Tofield, charged with false pretences on Alfred Bridgford, has been arrested by Constable N. Scott, Aratapu police, for a similar offence committed at Helensville.

Brunnerton. —On the 6th ultimo, a young man, name unknown, indecently exposed his person to Miss Annie Anderson and others at Stillwater. Offender is described as about sft. 9in. high, shaved except brown moustache ; dressed in a dark coat, striped trousers, and grey cap. Identification doubtful.

Wellington. —James Bagust, charged with using obscene language, has been arrested by Constable F. S. Parker, Waimate police, and committed to Timaru Police Gaol.

Sydney. —Special inquiry is requested for Robert Salter Webb, a ticket-of-leave man, who has neglected to report himself, and is supposed to be in New Zealand. Description : English, an ex-constable, thirty-seven years of age, 6ft. 2in. high, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, long nose, large mouth, sharp chin. He served in the Armed Constabulary from 27th February to 24th September, 1880, when he was discharged at Taranaki, and subsequently joined the New South Wales police. His wife and child (boy) left Goulburn for Sydney about three weeks ago, supposed en route to New Zealand to meet him. Mrs. Webb is a native of the North of England, about thirty years of age, medium height, slight build, black hair and eyes, pale complexion, usually wears a dark dress, long grey cloak, and black-straw hat. The boy is about five years old, very dark hair and eyes, very slight build. If traced, information to be sent to the Commissioner’s office. (95/1120.)
