Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Auckland. Dr. Alexander McArthur, schoolmaster, Ponsonby, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 12th or 13th instant, five flannel shirts, three white-damask tablecloths, fifteen pairs of socks, three linen aprons, two muslin aprons, three roller-towels, twenty white-linen handkerchiefs, a silk shirt, pair of brown-lace stockings, calico slipbody, two pairs of women’s drawers, and two chemises; most of them marked Min red : also a butter-cooler. Total value, £lO 10s.

Auckland. —William Henderson, coachman, reports stolen from him, while drunk in Abercrombie Street, on the 19th instant, a silver lever Rotherham open-faced watch, No. 30000, had been nearly six years in use ; value, £4.

Auckland. —John Harcourt, carter, reports stolen from him, at a brothel in Lower Hobson Street, on the 19th instant, a silver lever hunting-watch, ring very much worn ; a silver chain, small links; and a square silver locket, on which is engraved a horse-shoe and “ Good Luck ”: value, £1 10s.

Auckland. —James Glenny, commission agent, Nelson Street, reports that on the 19th instant his dwelling was broken into, and a cash-box stolen, containing sundry papers, a number of old coins, and about £3O in money, consisting of a £5 note, eight £1 notes, which may be numbered as follows: Two on the Bank of New Zealand, 650911 and 375006 ; three on the Colonial Bank, 251331, 377517, and 36260; one on the National Bank, No. 194009, and one on the Bank of Australasia, No. 9178: the balance being in gold and silver. The cash-box, minus the £3O, has since been found, broken open, in Customs Street.

Potter, commercial traveller, reports stolen from the verandah of his dwelling, on the 20bh instant, a steel portmanteau about 29in. by lOin.; a pair of rough blue trousers ; three pairs of boots, one lace-up, one button-up, and the other patent leather with kid tops; a Review of Reviews, with owner’s name written inside ; a white shirt; and a gentlemen’s companion, containing hairbrush, cloth-brush, nail-brush, and a small mirror: total value, £5.

Palmerston North. —A man, name unknown, is charged on warrant with having, at Shannon, on the 10th inst., stolen from a whare four blankets, value £2 (recovered); the property of Te Ora. Offender is a native of Boston, America, about twenty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, dark hair and complexion, medium build, clean-shaved except brownmoustache, square chin, wore a check suit much faded and quite green, and soft black-felt hat with narrow brim. He arrived in Wellington by the ship “ State of Vermont,” on the Ist instant.

Blenheim. —Samuel Hoggard, farmer, Meadow Bank, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 18th or 19th instant, a silver open-faced watch, much worn, maker and number unknown ; a watch-chain, supposed gold, round links ; and a pair of lace-up boots : value, £3 15s.

Christchurch. —Between 4.30 p.m. on the 21st and 8 a.m. on the 22nd instant the Christchurch Museum was broken into, and the following stolen : Six alluvial gold nuggets, water-worn, may have traces of black cement on them, and a quantity of gold dust, which had been cemented into showcase with black cement, value about £2O; three small specimens of crystallized Australian gold and quartz, value 10s.; a gold torque or Irish chieftain’s collar of thin leaf-gold, shaped like a crescent, value £2; an African gold brooch, about 2in. by lin., with green beetle in centre, value £5; a thick African gold ring, engraved with the signs of the Zodiac, value £2; three gold amulets, pear-shaped, embossed figure in centre of each, one about 2in. long, the others about lin., value £3 ; twelve small rough uncut African diamonds, value £l2. Identifiable, except rough gold and diamonds. The property of the Governors of the Canterbury College.

Dunedin. —Ted Wilkinson, commercial traveller, reports stolen from the Grand Hotel, on the 10th instant, a browncheck mackintosh with inverness cape, no sleeves, nearly new, “Birnbaum, maker,” on tab; and a pair of brown-kid gloves : total value, £3 17s.

Dunedin. —Peter Wilson, Rattray Street, reports that on the 10th or 11th instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : A gold oval-shaped locket and necklet, engraved SR ; a pair of gold-mounted cairngorm earrings, set with a ring, and gold bar for fastening; a gentlemen’s silver open-faced lever watch, silver dial; a silver ovalshaped locket and necklet, with monogram ; a silver bracelet, diamond pattern; a silver oval-shaped hollow bracelet, Grecian fastening; a pair of large silver earrings—design, three rings conjoined; a silver Maltese-cross brooch, with gold ivy leaves, and pair of earrings to match ; a pair of small gold earrings (sleepers) ; one ditto, split-pea design; a silver brooch, enamelled in front with lily and green leaves; two gold wedding-rings, one plain, the other has been set with three stones which are now missing ; a silver pearl-handled fruit-knife; a silver pencil with amethyst at end; a silver medal, shield pattern, with acorns ; a iarge silver Chinese or

Japanese coin brooch ; a gold pin, glass front, hair inside; a silver pin, diamond-shape, set with a piece of Aberdeen granite ; a silver pin, key pattern ; one ditto with SR in ivory letters; and a gold masonic jewel (square and compass), set with one white and one dark stone, two or three bars, engraved on back “Presented to Brother Peter Wilson by the St. Andrew Lodge”: value, £3O.

Port Chalmers. —Mary Munro, “ Captain,” Salvation Army, reports stolen from her dwelling, on the 19th or 20th ultimo, a £1 note, half-a-sovereign, and three or four halfcrowns, one of them being identifiable by having a small hole near the edge.
