Escaped Prisoner.
Whakatane.— Tornai, alias Tukaitapu, escaped from the custody of Constable A. J. Sisam at 7.40 a.m. on the 11th / March last. Description: A Maori, about eighteen years of 4} age, sft. 7in. high, upper lip thick and projecting, sharp nose and rather long, swarthy complexion, no hair on face, medium build ; was dressed in check cotton shirt and whitedrill trousers. Resides with his father at Ruatoki, an Uriwera settlement, and was seen there on the sth ultimo. Offender was under arrest for tho larceny of a boys’ tweed coat, value 125., the property of Sidney Dando; recovered. Warrant issued by Tauranga Bench.
