JAMES PRENDERGAST, Administrator of the Government

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by “ The Animals Protection Act, ISSO,” and the Acts amending the same, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that pheasants and Californian quail may be taken or killed within the Tauranga District, consisting of the Counties of Tauranga and Rotorua, and so much of the Counties of East Taupo and Whakatane as lies to the north of the Rangitaiki River, together with all boroughs therein, from the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, both inclusive (subject nevertheless to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned). And I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell game and native game shall be issued on the payment of the sum of five pounds each; and the Postmasters at Tauranga and Rotorua are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses.

And I do further declare that native game, excepting tui, huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed within the above-mentioned district from the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, both days inclusive. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Administrator of the Government, this thirteenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninetytwo.

WHEREAS by a warrant made under “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” dated the third day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the same date, it is notified, amongst other things, that certain game and native game may be taken or killed in the Hawke’s Bay District from the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninetytwo, until the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, both days inclusive : And whereas it is expedient to alter the said dates as hereinafter mentioned':

Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the aforesaid “ Animals Protection Act, 1880,” do hereby declare that the game and native game mentioned in the aforesaid warrant may be taken or killed in the Hawke’s Bay District from Monday, the second day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, until Saturday, the thirtieth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, both days inclusive. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Administrator of the Government, this twentieth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninetytwo.

By-law made by Collingwood County Council.—Vehicles to carry Lights in Takcika Riding.

Colonial Secretary’s Office, Wellington, 13th April, 1892. THE following by-law, made by the Collingwood County Council, is published for general information. P. A. BUCKLEY.

By-law. No owner or driver of any vehicle, whether public or private, shall drive such vehicle or permit the same to bo driven, or to stand in or upon any street or public place, within the Riding of Takaka, between sunset and sunrise, unless such vehicle shall have, whilst being driven or standing as aforesaid, two proper lamps, one on either side thereof, alight, and plainly visible to any one meeting such vehicle. This by-law only to apply to vehicles on springs. Penalty: Any person offending against this by-law, or committing any breach thereof, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £5 for every such offence. 19tli January, 1891.

Constable Patrick McCormack to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Leeston, and also to be Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Ellesmere, from the 15th instant, vice Constable W. J. Simpson, transferred;

Constable Thomas Bourke to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Temuka, from the 13tli instant, vice Constable J. Morton; and

Constable William Folley to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s and Warden’s Courts, Receiver of Gold Revenue, and Mining Registrar at Ross, and to be Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Ross, from the 6th instant, vice Constable P. Maher, transferred.
