(From Gazette, 1891, page 89.) George Henderson and a man, name unknown, are charged on warrants with conspiring to defraud George H. T. Adams, gardener, 169, Franklin Street, Melbourne, of £260, on the 13th instant. Description: First, about thirty-four years of age, about sft. 6in. high, fair complexion, fair moustache, beard of about four days’ growth ; wore a grey-tweed suit and black-felt hat. Second, about thirty-four or thirtyfive years of age, sft. Bin. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, dark beard whiskers and moustache cut short; wore black sac-coat, bluish-plaid-tweed trousers, and black-felt hat. Offender, Henderson, met the complainant in Bourke Street, and introduced himself as a squatter from New South Wales in search of a trustworthy man to manage a station. Henderson afterwards brought complainant to the Flower Hotel, Drummond Street, Carlton, where they met the second offender. The “ paper-trick ” was introduced, and in a little time complainant was swindled out of £260. The second offender said he recently came from South Africa.— O. 2228, 15th March, 1891.
