Alfred William Croft is charged, on warrant issued by the Gisborne Bench, with having, on the 12th December, 1889, at Gisborne, embezzled the sum of £35 Bs. in the bankrupt estate of Andrew Graham. Description: English, forty-five years of age, a clerk, and lately Deputy Official Assignee in Bankruptcy, sft. lOin. high, slight build, sharp long features, fair complexion, fair hair beard whiskers and moustache, bad teeth, erect walk with slight halt, usually wears stud in collar, no necktie, wears eyeglass, and heavy long-linked gold chain outside his coat, generally smoking cigarettes, gentlemanly appearance; supposed dressed in dark-tweed suit with blue-check in pattern. Was seen on ss. “ Manapouri,” at Gisborne, on the Bth ultimo, going north. His defalcations amount to about £4OO. (91/321.)

Ten Guineas Reward.— George James Clarke is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with having, on the 13tli and 30th January last, at Port Chalmers, embezzled the sums of £5 2s. 9d. and £8 os. 6d. respectively, the moneys of the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, Branch No. 5254, Otago District, of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows, of which lodge he was permanent secretary. Description: Thirty-three years of age, sft. Bin. high, dark hair side-whiskers and moustache, clean-shaved on chin, nose broken but not much disfigured, cheeks red, forehead high and prominent; dressed in dark-brown suit and hard black hat with a black band ; stylish appearance ; wears a gold ring with diamonds. Last seen on the 9th ultimo at Watson’s Hotel, Dunedin; is supposed to have gone north by steamer, and will probably endeavour to leave the colony.

Brabazon Dinsey O’Halloran, late Postmaster and Telegraphist, is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with having, on the 6th May last, at Whangarei, Bay of Islands District, forged the initials F. W. T. to a receipt for £4O; and is further charged with embezzling, on the 19tli July and 13th September, 1890, the sums of £Bl and £l4 respectively, moneys of the Postal Department. There are numerous other charges pending. Description : Supposed colonial, sft. lOin. high, medium build, shoulders inclined to be round, but otherwise carries himself erect, with military gait and smart active appearance, fair complexion, fair hair inclined to coarseness, small fair moustache, blue-grey eyes, rather weak, generally uses glasses, regular features, lisps slightly ; dressed in light-brown-tweed suit, hard brown-felt hat, carries a walking-stick; was a layreader, and may join the Salvation Army. He was last seen on the Ngunguru Road, Whangarei, on the 21st ultimo, and it is supposed will endeavour to leave the colony. Photograph in Commissioner’s office. (91/388.)

John Morgan is charged, on warrant issued by the Ashburton Bench, with having, on the 9th ultimo, at Ashburton, obtained from David Zander, merchant, the sum of 18s. 6d. by falsely representing that he was working for Max Friedlander and giving an order for £7 10s. alleged to be due. Description: A native of Wales, a labourer, about forty years of age, sft. 9in. or lOin. high, medium build, fair hair moustache and thin whiskers, largo eyes, stutters; dressed in brown-tweed coat, moleskin trousers, soft drab-felt hat, dirty appearance. Identifiable. May have gone to a relative named Richard Evans, farmer, Kaiapoi. He left Friedlander’s employment on the 6th ultimo, and was paid £1 os. 6d. in full.

Harry Armstrong is charged, on warrant issued by the Oamaru Bench, with having, on the 24th ultimo, at Oamaru, obtained from William Waddell, tailor, Thames Street, a pair of trousers, value 18s., by falsely representing that one Richard Condon had authorised him to receive them on his (Condon’s) behalf. Description: English, a sailor and

labourer, seventeen or eighteen years of age, sft. sin. high, slight build, fair hair, smooth face, impediment in speech, and speaks in a highly-excited tone, mark of an old wound on right wrist; dressed in greyish-tweed clothes and soft white-felt hat; carried a swag. Supposed gone to Lyttelton to obtain employment on a ship.

One Pound Reward. —Between 10 p.m. on the 14th and 6 a.m. on the 15th ultimo, a camera-obscura, at St. Clair, Dunedin, was maliciously injured by lifting the roof off, causing damage to the extent of about £1 10s. The owner, James Fergus, offers the above reward for conviction of the offender or offenders. Larrikins suspected.

Between 7.40 and 8.20 p.m. on the 9th ultimo a sleeper was wilfully placed across the railway-line at the Dobson Station, Westland District, supposed by children.

y 1 (See Police Gazette, 1891, page 35.) John Dunn, alias Ellison, charged with assaulting Frederick Goston, has been arrested by Constable John Shearman, Wanganui Police, and remanded to Wellington.

Between 6 p.m. on the 21st and 8 a.m. on the 23rd ultimo a steam-gauge and whistle were forced off an engine belonging to Joseph Saunders, contractor, in his yard, Stout Street, Wellington; amount of damage about £5. The steam-gauge, value £2, and supposed identifiable, is missing, probably carried away by the offender.

y (See Police Gazette, 1891, page 11.) Maliciously cutting belts in William Cruickshank’s sawmill, near Invercargill: This offence was committed by two boys, viz., George Georgeson and Henry Erasmussen. Complainant declines to prosecute.

James Wilson (name supposed fictitious) is charged, on issued by the Invercargill Bench, with having, on the 28th ultimo, obtained from Thomas Whittaker, hotelkeeper, Tay Street, Invercargill, board and lodging to the value of 7s. by falsely representing that Mr. Todd, an auctioneer, would pay for the same. Description : About thirty years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, slender build, sallow complexion, thin features, dark hair, short thin * brown whiskers beard and moustache, blinks with left eye ."when talking, slight impediment in speech ; dressed in liglit- * check trousers and vest, black coat, dark overcoat, and soft dark-felt hat, all much worn. Said he was a native of Hobart, and travelled for Peacock and Co., jam-makers, who were going to build a factory at Invercargill, and had appointed Mr. Todd their agent.

Andrew O’Brien is charged, on warrant, with having assaulted George Batira, an hotelkeeper at Little Grey, Westland District, on the 24th ultimo. (For description see Police Gazette, 1890, page 17.) Supposed gone to Greymouth, Westport, or Belgrove.
