James McCrenor is charged, on warrant issued by the Ashburton Bench, with having committed a breach of section 52 of “The Chattels Transfer Act, 1889,” at Methven, since the 30tli of January last, with intent to defraud Hugo Friedlander. Description : A native of North of Ireland, until recently a farmer and contractor at Methven, between thirty and thirty-five years of age, strong stout build, rather bandy-legged, very red face, clean-shaved except red moustache, rough coarse voice, very fond of drink, and of a quarrelsome disposition. Offender disposed of five of his horses over which Friedlander held a security. He also sold twenty other horses over which a mortgage company at Christchurch hold a bill of sale. He was seen at Methven on the 11th ultimo, and on the following day he was seen riding a dark-bay mare with star on forehead, in low condition, on the northern side of Rakaia, supposed making for the West Coast, and will likely endeavour to leave the colony. He has a largo sum of money in his possession. His wife and family are still at Methven.

A man, name unknown, is charged with having, about 10.30 a.m. on the 12th ultimo, at Barrett Road, Omata, Taranaki, assaulted Mere Repo, about seventy-five years of age, with intent to commit rape. Description : A young man, medium height, stout build, red or fresh complexion, red hair, no hair on face ; dressed in light-coloured suit and soft white-felt hat; carried a short thick gun with bright barrel (it is not known whether it was a single- or double-

barrel gun). Identifiable. Complainant was going along Barrett Road near her residence, and was accosted by the offender, who asked her to allow him to have sexual intercourse with her, which she declined. He then offered her money, which she refused to accept, and afterwards threw her down, lifting up her clothes, but, as she still refused his advances, he kicked her on the shins and struck her on the mouth with the barrel of his gun, inflicting a nasty wound, and then left her, going across the country.

Ah Fun is charged, on warrant issued by the Lawrence Bench, with having, on the 27th ultimo, at Lawrence, obtained 18s. 9d. from the Bank of New South Wales by false pretences. Description : A Chinaman, a gold-miner, thirtyseven years of age, sft. Tin. high, black hair, hazel eyes, large mouth, a slight scar between eyebrows; dressed in grey clothes and hard black hat. He is identical with a man of the same name who was sentenced at Dunedin on the 16th July, 1888, to twenty-eight days’ labour for larceny. (See Police Gazette, 1888, page 165.)

At 11.40 p.m. on the 11th instant two panes of glass, value £1 10s., were maliciously broken in a window of the residence of William Tustin, Pirie Street, Wellington.

On the 17th ultimo, at Whauwhau, Bay of Islands District, fifteen panes of glass and three window-sashes were maliciously broken in an unoccupied house; the property of James Whitelaw.

Alexander Fraser, of Kaikoura, near Dunedin, is charged, on warrant issued by the Supreme Court, Dunedin, with being about to go abroad or quit his place of residence with a view of defeating, delaying, or embarrasing proceedings under “The Bankruptcy Act, 1883.” Description: Scotch, a flax-dresser, about twenty-seven years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, medium build, sharp grey eyes, rather thin sandy beard whiskers and moustache; dressed in dark-tweed suit and hard black-felt hat. The warrant directs the seizure and retention of any books, papers, money, goods, &c., found belonging to tho offender. As he will endeavour to leave the colony, a sharp look-out is to be kept for him, but he is not to be arrested until the warrant is received.
