Stolen on the 14th instant, from the woolshed of Mr. Sullivan, at Levels Valley, Canterbury, an oxford shirt with pink spots, collar attached ; a flannel undershirt bound round the neck with blue ribbon, a pair of brown-merino drawers, a pair of grey-tweed trousers, a yellow-silk pockethandkerchief, and a blue muffler; the property of William Clark; value about £l. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a swagman, name unknown, who slept in the woolshed on the previous night. Description: Scotch, about thirtyfive years of age, about sft. lOin. high, slight build, dark complexion, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache, some of front teeth out; wore dark-tweed coat, tweed or coloured-moleskin trousers, and dark-tweed hat; carried a small swag tied up in a sugar-bag.

Stolen between the 25th December last and the Ist ultimo, from Waimatuku River, Southland, a flat-bottomed boat, about 10ft. long and 3fft. beam, square stern, painted red, value 15s. ; a pair of oars, one ash and the other red pine, value 35.; and a mullet fishing-net, 2in. mesh, 25 fathoms long, 100 meshes deep at centre and 50 at each end, a new piece about 9in. by 7in. in centre, top line fin. rope and bottom fin., with lead sinkers attached, value £3 ; the property of Joseph Wilks. William Middleton, charged with stealing clothing, &c., the property of Kapia Hetaraka, from on board the cutter “ South Wairoa,” has been arrested by Detective James Joseph Tuohy, Auckland Police, and discharged. He was sentenced to six months’ labour on another charge of larceny.
