Charles Rivers Allpress is charged on warrant with larceny, as a servant, of about £7,000 from the shareholders of the Commercial Bank, Melbourne, at Smith Street, Collingwood, on the 25th instant. Description: Colonial, twenty-nine years old, sft. lOin. high, thin build, olive complexion, dark hair, moustache only, aquiline nose, very high prominent forehead ; generally wears dark-brown sac-coat and vest, dark trousers with stripes, and belltopper hat. Was formerly in charge of a branch of the same bank at Wycheproof, where his parents then resided. Well known at Sandhurst. He was accountant at the above bank, and in that capacity received the above amount in notes and gold. He was last seen in Melbourne late on Saturday night, the 26th instant. He may go to one of the adjacent colonies. He has a brother, a professor of music, living at No. 4, Forbes Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney. Offender lately lived in Leopold Street, off Domain Road, South Yarra. —O. 886, 29th January, 1889. The Commercial Bank of Australia (Limited) hereby offers a reward of £SOO for such information as shall lead to the arrest of Charles Rivers Allpress, and the recovery of the property (notes and gold) stolen by him from the Collingwood branch of the bank on the afternoon of Friday, the 25th instant. A reward of £250 will be paid for such information irrespective of the recovery of the money stolen. Information may be furnished to the head office of the bank, 30, Collins Street West, Melbourne, or to any of its branches in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, and Queensland; to the Detective Office, Melbourne, or to any police-station. —By order. Isaac Marshall is charged on warrant with deserting from Her Majesty’s ship “ Orlando,” at Auckland, on the 12tli ultimo. Description : Stoker, sft. sin. high, fair hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion. Certificate was transferred, to senior officer on leaving Sydney.—O. 1056, 3rd February, 1889.

Inquiry is requested for Robert Landale Mayne, about thirty-seven years of age, sft. sin. or 6in. high, fair skin, small bone, tattooed on chest and arms, small delicatelyshaped hands and feet, high large fair forehead, beard all round face, very fine lightish-brown hair ; had been a midshipman in the Royal navy for about seven years, and may have gone to sea. Was with Mr. Hay’s survey party near Riverton, in Southland, New Zealand, for six months, but left in the end of September, 1876. On the 30th of the same month he called on Mr. Baker, Superintendent-General of Surveys in New Zealand, who was then in Riverton, and said he was thinking of going north to the wool-stations. Could have had very little money with him then. Was fond of smoking, clever in conversation, witty and quick tempered. Please copy into New Zealand Police Gazette.
