(From Gazette, 1887, page 23.) £SO Reward : England.— Wanted on a warrant, charged with embezzling the sum of £3,000, the property of his cm-

ployer, Robert Taylor, a cashier, thirty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, slim built, pale sallow complexion, high cheekbones, dark-brown hair, dark straggling whiskers beard and moustache (may be clean-shaved); respectably dressed in dark suit, and has a Yankee appearance. Had with him a small black valise containing a light suit of clothes. Supposed to have left Hull by 9 p.m. train on Friday, the 26th instant, for London. Had in his possession the following Bank of England notes (Branch Bank, Hull): Two £SOO notes, Nos. 02184 and 02192, dated Ist September, 1883 ; five £IOO notes, Nos. 16550, 16G01, 16602, 16603, and 16604, dated 12th September, 1884 ; four £IOO notes, Nos. 16632 to 16635 ; forty £5 notes, Nos. 12011 to 12050, dated 15th September, 1885; twenty £lO notes, Nos. 88035 to 88050, and 88401 to 88404, Hull, 22nd September, 1882. The two £SOO notes had not been cashed at the bank in London at closing time on the 29th instant. It is requested that every possible inquiry be made at shipping offices, on board outward-bound vessels, banks, money-changers, &c. The above reward will be paid to any one giving such information as will lead to the arrest of the above-named; or, in the event of a considerable portion of the stolen money being recovered, 5 per cent, of such amount will be paid. Any information obtained respecting the whereabouts of the above-named, or recovery of any of the notes, must be immediately communicated to F. P. Gurney, Captain, Chief Constable.—Chief Constable’s Office, Hull, 30th November, 1886. A man answering the offender’s description was in the shop of Moubray, Rowan, and Hicks, Melbourne, on the 11th instant. He bought a black travelling-bag, about 18in. long, fitted up with razors, &c. He stated he had £6,000 in notes and gold. Ho wore a dark paget-coat, dark trousers, and a speckled-straw hat; had a young man with him, who was dressed somewhat similarly. SSOO Reward : United States op America. —Wanted, for forgery, Otto Baumann, born in Wurtenburg, South Germany, about forty-one years, looks younger, about sft. 9in. high, and weighs about 1901 b., ruddy complexion, rather thick reddish-brown hair worn short and combed up off forehead, has a small bald spot on top of head, reddish-brown beard and moustache, which is lighter and more mixed than hair ; has a clear and intelligent blue or bluisli-grcy eye of medium size; has good teeth, and a pleasant and intelligent face ; features are of normal size, nose slightly prominent, making the features of a slight Jewish cast; has a full chin; the mouth, which is full-lipped, is covered by a heavy moustache; has a full-sized ear and thick neck; his build is inclined to be slightly corpulent, but walks erect and has a full chest. Has slight German accent with baritone voice. Speaks French, Italian, German, and English. Peculiarities: When startled or suddenly surprised, flushes at back of neck, even though countenance does not change. Has a quick positive walk with long stride, and a quick jerky movement of arms with a general brisk movement. When meditating (of which lie has a habit), stares at an apparent object in tho distance and pulls at moustache with right hand. Back of hands arc quite hairy, and have an inflamed appearance ; tapering fingers.
