Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

James Wells is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with deserting his two children, at Dunedin, since the 2nd instant. Edward Hansen, alias Anderson, is charged on warrant of commitment for three days’ labour to the gaol at Shortland or Te Aroha, issued by tho Paeroa Bench, in default of paying £1 fine and ss. costs for being drunk at Paeroa on the 6th ultimo. Description : A native of the colony, a carpenter, thirty-five years of age, sft. 4Jin. high, medium build, dark hair, dark complexion, cast in left eye, bracelet tattooed on right wrist; wore dirty cloth hat, white-and-blue-striped shirt, worn open, and watertight boots, no coat. Richard Baker is charged on warrant of commitment to Wellington Gaol for forty-eight hours’ labour, issued by the Wellington Bench, in default of paying a fine of 10s. and 17s. costs for carrying on business as a hawker, at Wellington, on the 23rd ultimo, without being duly licensed. Description : A native of England, a labourer and hawker, about forty years of age, sft. sin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, bald on top of head, brown goatee and moustache, cheeks shaved.
