Rewards
The sum of £ls 15s. has been awarded by the Mutual Life Association of Australasia to Inspector Peter Pender,’Christchurch Police, in recognition of the-.untiring energy and ability displayed by him in connection with the'prosecution of Arthur Robert Ramage Howard, Jane Ann Howard, Elisha Godfrey, and Frederick Godfrey, tried at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Christchurch, for conspiring to defraud insurance associations. Arthur Robert Ramage Howard was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, buR thejthree other offenders were acquitted.
The sum of £2 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Sergeant William Lyons, Wellington Police, in recognition of his services in stopping a runaway horse with cart attached.
The sum of £2 has been awarded to Constable John Twomey, Opunake Police, by Mr. J. H. Sellers, of Pihama, in recognition of his energetie services in connection with the recovery of property stolen from him, and the prosecution of Iwi, alias Hewi, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, New Plymouth, to six months’ labour for housebreaking and larceny.
The sum of ss. has been awarded to 'Constable William Maddern, Dunedin Police, by Mr. George H. Ashcroft, of Dunedin, for the recovery of a dog lost by him.
The sum of £5 has'been awarded to Constable Alexander McGilp, Russell Police, for the arrest of a deserter from the American ship “ Melton.”
