Maliciously breaking street-lamps at New Plymouth, the property of the New Plymouth Borough Council: Henry Paine was summoned by Sergeant John Duffin, New Plymouth Police, for the five offences, for which he was fined £3 and coses, or, in default, one month’s labour.

Between 8.40 and 8.55 p.m. on the 19th ultimo a kerosene lamp which was burning in the sitting-room of the hotel of Charles Coomber, at New Plymouth, was maliciously broken, and the inkstand and water-jug upset, thereby causing damage to the extent of £l.

Between 5 p.m. on the 23rd and 8 a.m on the 24th ultimo four of the roller screw-bolts of the Mornington Tramway Company’s line, at the Town Belt, near the top of High Street, Dunedin, were maliciously unscrewed and taken away. Two of them have since been found near the place. About the same time four bolts were also unscrewed on the same tram-line at the junction of High and William Streets, Dunedin, and placed on the rails of the line.

Margaret Mary Belinda Todd is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with having, on the 21st ultimo, at Christchurch, uttered a forged cheque for £lll 4s. to Messrs. Black, Beattie, and Co. Description: A native of

County Waterford, Ireland, a nurse, fifty-four years of age, 5 feet £ inch high, stout build, very thick or gouty legs, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, long nose, large mouth and chin, four upper front teeth out; may be wearing a black-cashmere mantle lined with quilted silk and trimmed with chenille fringe, a maroon-merino dress trimmed with velvet, and a black-silk-velvet liat with two grey feathers. She obtained the clothing described by means of the forged cheque. The cheque is drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, in favour of Black, Beattie, and Co., and purports to be signed by Theodore Kennedy, whom offender said was her nephew, and lived at Greymouth. She is an old offender, and is known in Westland and at Dunedin and Timaru. Other charges are pending against her.
