Missing Friends.
Information is requested respecting Patrick Maher, who came to New Zealand with tho 99th Regiment, and obtained his discharge for the purpose of settling in the colony. He
is about fifty-six years of age, and was last heard of serving in the Ist Regiment, Waikato Militia. Inquiry is made at tho request of Philip Maher, 39, Meath Street, Dublin.
Information is requested respecting Walter Story, English, a carpenter, joiner, or butcher. He arrived in New Zealand about twenty years ago, and was last heard of about ten years ago, when he wrote from Wellington stating that he was going to work at a lighthouse which was being erected. He has an uncle, named John Birch, a marketgardener, in tho Middle Island. Inquiry is made for him at the request of his father, Thomas Story, care of Mr. Randerson, 23, Walker Street, Newington, Hull, England, who has been told that the missing man died from injuries inflicted by a bullock.

The body of Patrick Harnett, alias Black Paddy, has been found in the Hurunui River in an advanced stage of decay. At an inquest, held on the 26th ultimo, to inquire as to the cause of death, the following verdict was returned: “ Found dead; no evidence to show how the body came to be in the river.”
Information is requested respecting William David McLean, a native of Hill Hall, near Lisburn, County Down, Ireland, a farmer when in Ireland, twenty-five years of age, tall, broad-shouldered, brown eyes, auburn hair, short sandy beard and whiskers, and slight moustache ; rather gentlemanly appearance. He left London about the 29th October, 1880, by tho steamer “ Potosi,” for Adelaide, where he arrived on the 11th December, and proceeded to Sydney and thence to Christchurch. He was heard of at Wellington about the Ist July, 1881, and was then engaged as groom or valet to a Mr. Bodkin, who was at the time on his way to Sydney. He was seen later in the same month in Auckland with Mr. Frederick Brookfield, solicitor. It is said ho is known to Constable Briggs, of Christchurch, and that William Dorman, of Springfield, has his photograph. He is inquired for at the instance of Jane McLean, of Tullyard, care of Carlile, Bridge Street, Lisburn.
