Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 77.) Robert Croton, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol, in default of paying £4 10s. due for the support of his daughter in the Burnham Industrial School, has been arrested by Constable John Bird, Sydenham Police.

Joseph Williams is charged, on warrant issued by the Te Aroha Bench, with deserting his wife and five children at Wairongomai, since the 23rd ultimo. Description : A native of Cornwall (calling not stated), twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, darkbrown hair, small fair moustache and goatee ; wore darkVelveteen sac-coat, light-tweed trousers, soft drab hat, and elastic-side boots. He went to Auckland.

(See Police Gazette, 1882, page 133, and 1883, page 71.) Frederick Corkinn, or Corkill, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol, in default of paying 10s. fine and 13s. costs, for j umping off a railway-carriage when in motion, has been arrested by Constable Robert Looney, Wanganui Police.

(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 119.) Thomas Neave, charged on warrant with deserting his wife and children at Dunedin, has been arrested by Constable Thomas Whitty, Hurunui Police, and ordered to pay £1 per week towards their support.
