Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Daniel Davey is charged, on warrant issued by the Kaiapoi Bench, with disobeying an order to provide for the support of his two children in the Caversham Industrial School. Description : English, a labourer, about sixty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light-brown hair beard whiskers and moustache turning grey. He was £l7 15s. in arrears on the 31st May last. He is supposed to be at Greymouth.
Hugh Gibson is charged on warrant of commitment to Wellington Goal for seven days’ labour, issued by the Wellington Bench, in default of paying £2 fine and 9s. costs, for behaving in a violent and offensive manner on the rail way-plat form at Upper Hutt on the 27th March last. Description: A native of the North of Ireland, a ship-carpenter, bushman, and labourer, about thirty-four years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, very stout build, fair complexion, light sandy hair beard whiskers and moustache ; fond of drink. He was discharged from Wellington Gaol on the 20th ultimo, after undergoing a sentence of one month’s labour for false pretences. He is supposed to have gone to the Wairarapa District.
Thomas Neave is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunediu Bench, with deserting his wife and two children, at Dunedin, since about the 23rd April last. Description: English, a ship-carpenter, forty-five years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, grey hair, very bald, small sandy beard and moustache, cheeks shaved, first joint of third finger of left hand off, anchor on left arm. He is supposed to be in the Hurunui District.
Alexander Hastings Malcolm is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with intending to desert his wife, at Palmerston North, on the 27th ultimo. Description : English, late a partner in the firm of Gillet Brothers and Co., spirit merchants, Wellington and Palmerston North, about thirty-two years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair whiskers and moustache. He left Wellington on the 22nd ultimo by the steamer “ Manapouri,” supposed for Auckland. It is supposed he left Auckland on the 27th ultimo by the steamer “Penguin ” for Samoa, via Fiji, accompanied by a Miss Williams, alias Willis, twenty-one years of age, medium height and build, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, square face and chin.
