Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

(See Police Gazette, 1881, page 110.) Martin Nelson, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol, in default of paying £l 18s. and 6s. costs, due for the maintenance of his wife, has been arrested by Constable John Gillespie, Palmerston North Police, and discharged 011 payment of amount due.

Richard Climo, charged on warrant with deserting his wife and family at West Taratahi, has been arrested by Constable Owen Pleasants, Normanby Police.

(See Police Gazette, 1881, page 125.) The warrant issued by the Picton Bench for the arrest of Thomas Lacy, for deserting his wife, has been cancelled.

Thomas Albert Firkin, charged on warrant with deserting his wife and family at South Dunedin, is a bricklayers’ labourer.

George Walter Driscoll, charged on warrant w r itli deserting his wife at Dunedin, has been arrested by Detective Samuel Brennan, Auckland Police, and ordered to pay £2 per week towards the support of his wife and three children.

John Menehin absconded from the Caversham Industrial School on the 4th instant. Description : Fourteen years of age, medium build, brown hair cut short, downcast loutish appearance ; wore grey-tweed jacket, moleskin trousers, new laceup boots, and black billycock hat. He w»as until lately in the employment of Mr. Michael O’Hagan, farmer, Pukerau. He was committed to the school from Oarnaru on the 6th October, 1876, for five years, for larceny.

Thomas Lacy is charged, on warrant issued by the Picton Bench, with disobeying an order, since the 9th instant, to pay

£1 per week towards the support of his wife. Description : A native of Australia, a labourer and bushman, thirty-one years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, thin features, sandy hair and whiskers, top off middle finger of right hand ; wore blue frock-coat, light-coloured trousers and vest, and felt hat. He was at Auckland on the 9th instant, and may go to Waipu, where a Mr. Jeffrey, a relative of his, is employed in the Telegraph Office. He has assumed the name of Frederick Holloway.

Goderey Bentley is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench with deserting his wife and 6even children at Malvern since about the slh April last. Description : English, forty-two years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache ; when last seen wore dark-tweed suit and hard black-felt hat.
