Moses Churchill is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with stealing, between the 2nd and 4th instant, from a house in course of erection in Peterborough Street, Christchurch, a hammer, two chisels, and a saw-set, since recovered; the property of Arthur Power; value 19s. Description: Supposed English, a labourer, thirty-four years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache; dressed in pepper-and-salt-tweed coat and black-cloth trousers ; slovenly gait. Supposed to have gone to Ashburton.

Stolen on the 6th instant, from a pocket of the coat of Alfred Clifton, at the Pastoral Association Grounds, Carterton, a silver-plated double-cased Geneva watch, No. 51393, maker’s name not known; a brown-leather purse, inches long and 2£ inches wide, rather worn, elastic band, containing a crossed cheque for £lO on the Bank of New Zealand, Carterton, No. 42950, drawn by Adam Armstrong and Co. in favour of Alfred Clifton, the key of a small work-box, a girls’ photograph, and two Wairarapa Pastoral Association tickets for 1879 and 1880. Suspicion attaohed to a man, name unknown, who, soon after the property was stolen, wanted to change a £lO cheque. Description: English, about 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, thin face, dark-brown hair worn short, small darkbrown whiskers and moustache; horsey appearance; wore dark-brown-tweed suit, paget-coat, black-felt hat with soft crown; rode a dark-chestnut horse with surcingle over saddle. Supposed to have gone towards Masterton.

Stolen during the night of the 25th ultimo, from the washhouse of Joseph Wilson, Aikman’s Road, St. Albans, Christchurch, a pair of men’s grey-woollen ribbed drawers, a pair of grey-woollen ribbed socks, “Jeffreys” written on a piece of linen sewn on inside of each ; a home-made under-flannel, buttons on left side of breast; a coloured-silk handkerchief, and 3 lb. of cheese ; value £1 6s. Clothing identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant, from a garden at Carlton Mill Road, Christchurch, a large steel spade, blade half worn, the rivet of handle nearest to blade started; the property of John Thorn ; value ss. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from off a window-sill of the house of George Whitley, Bradford Q.uay, Blenheim, a large red flower-pot containing a musk plant; value ss. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 30tli July last, from the platform of the Milton Railway-station, a mahogany box, 24 by 18 by 8 inches, covered with dark morocco, Chubb’s spring lock, brass handle countersunk in centre of lid, containing two volumes of “ Bindley on Partnership,” one volume of “ Coxe’s Law of Jointstock Companies,” all bound in full calf, and stamped “ Sievwright and Stout” on fly-leaf; a volume of “ Macfarlane’s Digest of Mining Cases,” dated 1881, bound in dark cloth ; a copy of “ Gold Fields Regulations ”in half-calf; a flannel shirt, and a pair of brown-woollen socks ; the box was enclosed in a brown-leather case with two straps with sliding leather handle; the property of John Mouatt; value £lO. Identifiable, except socks and shirt.

Stolen on the 9th instant, from the clothes-line of John Yates, George Street, Dunedin, a brown-twill sheet, three white sheets, and a white counterpane; value £l. Identification doubtful.

Stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, from the meatsafe of Agnes Souness, Waitaki, Blueskin, a 50-lb. bag of flour, two tins of mustard, and a small white earthenware sugarbasin ; value 10s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the 6th instant, from the shop-door of Richards and Co., George Street, Dunedin, four pairs of muslin curtains, d/az marked on one corner of each; value lls. Bd. Identifiable by private mark.

deletia, three bottles of lily-of-the-valley perfume, three bottles of forget-me-not perfume, three bottles of violet perfume, five bottles of ylang ylang perfume, and three bottles of verbena perfume ; bottles about 2 inches long and 1£ inches wide; value £1 10s.

Stolen during the night of the 3rd instant, from the garden of Henry James Worthylake, at Grove Town, Marlborough, 154 broccoli plants; ninety-seven plants were maliciously destroyed ; value £lO.

Stolen during the night of the 4th instant, from the wagon of Andrew McKillock, at Kakaramea, two boxes of s.s. “Bowen” tea, 11 lb. each, JG on matting and Oon top; a 56-lb. bag of rice, marked JG; and two pulley-wheels ; value £4 Bs. Identification doubtful. One box of the tea has since been recovered ; it was found on the 6th instant in a flax-bush at Patea, near the residence of Peter Jansen and Peter Peters, who are suspected of the offence.

Stolen during the night of the Bth instant, from the fowlhouse of the Rev. G. J. Cholmondley, at Opawa, near Christchurch, nine chickens, about six months old (seven black Spanish breed, the other two a cross between a Dorking and Brahma); value £l. Identification doubtful.

Stolen during the night of the 9th instant, from the fowlhouse of Edward Johnson, Poison Street, Addington, a yellow Cochin-china hen, a silver-grey hen, and five common hens; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 6th instant, from the meat-safe of Thomas James Mailing, at Riccarton, near Christchurch, a round of roast beef, a leg of mutton, a cooking-dish containing meat-pies, and some butter ; value £l.

Stealing poultry from the premises of Fulbert Archer, at Otipua, near Timaru. —Oscar Lawrence Brown, a boy, arrested by Detective Austin Kirby, Timaru Police, for stealing pigeons from Mr. Archer, admitted having stolen his poultry also.
