Second-class Sergeant Richard Saunderson, No. 193. Rewards. The sum of £l2 12s. has been awarded by the Canterbury Firo Insurance Association to Constable Maurice O’Connor, Christchurch Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the arrest and prosecution of John Duncan, alias Brown, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Christchurch, to six years’ penal servitude for arson.
The sum of £lO has been awarded to Detective Austin Kirby, Timaru Police, for the arrest of Edward Lewis, who deserted from the barque “ Portland,” at Timaru.
The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable George Lawrie, Wellington Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the prosecution of James Flaherty, fined £2O and costs for sly grog-selling.
The sum of £2 has been awarded by Captain Anderson, of Auckland, to Constable John Strathern, Auckland Police, in recognition of his services in tracing fifty-five sacks of oats supposed to have been stolen.
During the night of the 18th ultimo eight panes of glass, value 155., were maliciously broken in a seboolhouse at Invercargill ; the properly of the Southland Education Board.
On the morning of the 23rd ultimo the signboard of Mrs. Paul, dressmaker, Montreal Street South, Christchurch, was removed from the front of her residence and maliciously destroyed, and a number of flower-pots in her garden broken ; the damage is estimated at 16s.
Between the 17th and 28th ultimo, at Kaikorai Hill, Green Island, the hair was maliciously cut off the tails of five horses (four black and one chestnut); the property of Frederick Sittald.
During the night of the 28th ultimo, at Little Brenchley Road, Lyttelton, a lamp, the property of the Lyttelton Borough Council, was maliciously broken and damaged to the extent of 6s.
