Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

James Thompson is charged, on warrant issued by the New Plymouth Bench, with stealing fourteen £1 notes on the Bank of New Zealand from the dwelling of Andrew Neilson, at Norfolk Road, near Inglewood, between 2 p.m. on the 6th and 9 a.m. on the 7th instant. Description: A Dane, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, a small tuft of fair beard on chin, cheeks shaved; wore blue sac-coat, cord trousers, brown-woollen vest with sleeves, soft brown-felt hat, and elastic-side boots; holds his head down when walking. He was lately employed by England Brothers, at Normanby, and was seen at Bell Block on the Bth instant.

Anderson Hunter, charged on warrant with stealing a meerschaum pipe from the store of Donald Blyth,at Masterton, is identical with John Hunter, alias Anderson, sentenced at the Supreme Court, Dunedin, on the 4th instant, to five years’ penal servitude for housebreaking and larceny.

Patrick Lang, charged on warrant with stealing two bottles of whiskey from the hotel of Tyne and Dalton, at Wanstead, has been arrested by Constable John Gillespie, Palmerston North Police, and discharged.

Supposed stolen on the 7th instant, from the person of Mark Bayliss, while in a brothel in Eraser’s Lane, Wellington, forty £1 notes on the Colonial Bank.

Stolen about the Ist instant, from a cash-box in the bedroom of Dorathea Shultz, East Street, Newton, Auckland, three £1 notes.

Stolen on the 9th instant, from the shop-door of Walker, Smith, and Co., at Sydenham, three knitted dark-brown cardigan jackets, black-bone buttons, a thread broken in back of one, which is knotted on outside; value £1 7s. 6d. Identification doubtful.

During the night of the Bth instant the shop of Walker, Smith, and Co., at Sydenham, was broken into, and £3 ss. in silver and ss. in copper stolen.

During the night of the Bth instant a window in l the shop of Arnold Emery, at Sydenham, was broken, aud about half a case of oranges, value 10s., stolen.

Stolen on the 15th instant, from the person of Margaret Durie, while drunk in the house of John Booth, Miller’s Right-of-way, Dunedin, two half-sovereigns and about 10s. in silver. John Booth suspected.

Stolen during the night of the 14th instant, from the shop of Thomas Messiter, at Wanganui, eight £1 notes, a large piece torn off the corner of one, and 4s. in eiiver. Torn note identifiable.

Stolen between the 27th and 29th ultimo, from a safe in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Invercargill, three £3 court-of-law stamps, three law stamps for 20s , 55., and 2s. each j the property of Arthur C. Henderson. Suspicion attached to James Pollock Holmes, who was left alone in the office while the safe was open. Description : Scotch, a bailiff, about thirtyone years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, sharp features, aquiline nose, light-sandy hair and whiskers, chin shaved, nearly bald on front of head ; usually wears light-buff or serge suit, hard black hat, and gold guard without bar.

Stolen during the night of the Ist instant, from the tent of Hawia Atana, at Tauranga, an open-face silver lever watch, No. 5916, maker’s name not known. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 7th April last, from the person of James Mills, at Dunedin, a silver Geneva watch, number and maker's name not known, a double-liuk-pattern steel guard and two watclikeys attached ; value £4 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 16th instant, from the shop of Messrs. Casey and McDonald, Lambton Quay, Wellington, a jacket and a pair of knickerbockers, brown-and-black indistinct check pattern, the smallest size made, trimmed with black braid, square collar; value 10s 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a Mrs. Hazlewoodand a woman, name unknown, who were in the shop. Description: First. Supposed English, about thirty years of age, medium height and build, dissipated appearance ; wore a shawl. Second. Supposed English, about twenty-fire years of

age, medium height and build, full face, fresh complexion; shabbily dressed. Identifiable. It is supposed that they live in Newtown.

During the night of the 12th instant the shop of Matthew Roach, Colombo Street South, Christchurch, was broken into, and the following stolen : A till containing about 3s. in copper, about 30 lb. of cheese, and five packages of cocoa; value £l. The till lias since been recovered.

Stolen between the 28th ultimo and the 6th instant, from the tent of Eugene Cowen, at Motu Bush, Poverty Bay, an English-made hogskin saddle, a bridle, and a martingale; value £6 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Ilmira, a Maori, about twenty-three years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, very little hair on face.

Stolen on the 16th instant, from the shop-door of William Pratt, Cashel Street, Christchurch, a pair of greyish-brown-tweed trousers and a single-breasted vest of same material; value £1 7s. fid. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 11th and 16th instant, from the dwelling of Neil Fraser, at Waitahuna, a curb-pattern gold albert guard with gold nugget attached ; value £3 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 15tli instant, from the store of Alexander Garden, at Havelock, Otago, about £3 10s. in silver, about 120 twopenny postage-stamps, a penny r receiptstamp, an elastic waist-belt, four black stripes on white ground, square brass clasp ; a set of pearl studs, and a bottle of scent; value £4 15s. 6d. Belt and studs identifiable.

Stolen about the 3rd instant, from the hut of John Walker, at Dromore, Timaru District, a pair of white blankets, a lightblue rug, a pair of coloured-moleskin trousers, a belt, a cotton shirt, a towel, a pair of 60cks, a comb, a looking-glass, a pannikin, and a sheath-knive ; value £2 ss. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 19th instant, from the Garrick Hotel, Colombo Street, Christchurch, a dark-silk umbrella, black handle with bent head ; the property of George Charles Flaxmore; value 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a woman, name unknown, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight build, fresh complexion, rather red as if from drink, dark-brown hair, left Land off; wore dark dress and large black-straw hat. Identifiable.

Stolen on the Bth instant, from the store of James Crombie, Franklin Road, Auckland, a black-woollen shawl and two woollen squares, one grey, the other maroon colour; value 17s. 6d. Identifiable.
