(See Police Gazette, 1881, page 28.) Alexander McGregor, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol in default of paying £SO fine and £6 Is. costs for selling spirits without a license, has paid the fine and costs.

Michael Heron, charged on warrant with having obtained board and lodging from Jane Lee, at Dunedin, by false representations, has been arrested by Detective Alexander Henderson, Dunedin Police, and sentenced to four weeks’ labour.
Thomas Christie is charged, on warrant issued by the Timaru Bench, with uttering a forged cheque for £ls to William Lawrence Edwards, in the Clarendon Hotel, Timaru, on the sth instant. Description : Scotch, a labourer and shepherd, thirty years of age, 5 feet Hi inches high, stout build, broad shoulders, red features, blue eyes, aquiline nose, brown hail’, clean-shaved except light sandy moustache, the first joint off third finger of left hand, nail off middle finger same hand ; dressed in brown-tweed suit, paget coat, nearly-new soft brownfelt hat, and strong nailed boots; carried a blue-blanket swag tied with cord. He is identical with Thomas Cruickshank, sentenced on the 11th December, 1876, at Timaru, to twelve months’ labour for robbery. (See Police Gazette, 1877, page 62.) He was seen at Albury on the 7th instant. The cheque is
on the Bank of New Zealand, Timaru, drawn in favour of William Perry, and purports to be signed by John Barclay.
Waring Webb is charged with having uttered a valueless cheque for £1 15s. to Charles Williams, on the 25th ultimo, on board the steamer “ Minnie Casey,” at Kaipara, in payment for meals, &c. Description : English, about thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, erect gait, thin features, sandy whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; wore dark-tweed suit and soft black-felt hat; respectable appearance; said he was a schoolmaster. He left Helensville on the 26th ultimo for Auckland. No warrant.

Augusta Detrent, alias Eunney, charged on warrant with abandoning an infant at Gladstone, has been arrested by Detective Robert Bain, Dunedin Police, remanded to Invercargill, and discharged.

George Hansford and Frederick Knight, charged on warrant with having maliciously destroyed a boat at Port Boss, the property of William Hatch, have been arrested by Sergeant William Hanlon, Port Chalmers Police, and fined Is. each and costs, and ordered to pay £2 10s. each as compensation for the damage done, or in default seven days’ labour.
