Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Robert Jones, charged on warrant with stealing a coat, &e., at Bull’s, the property of James Mclntosh, has been arrested by Constable Charles Brunskill, Featherston Police.

David Mason is charged, on warrant issued by the Oxford Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, at Oxford, on the 15th ultimo, of a double-barrel muzzle-loading gun, with leather sling, “ Manton, London,” engraved on locks, and “ Ruben ” on barrels in brass letters, locks and hammers very bright; the property of James Inglis value £5. Identifiable. Description : English, a sailor, twenty-nine years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, pale complexion, dark hair, darkbrown beard and moustache, cheeks shaved, bow-legged ; wore moleskin or shepherds’-plaid trousers and old dark-cloth saccoat ; dissipated appearance, and fond of drink. He went towards Malvern.

A letter posted at Featherston, on the 31st of May last, addressed to the Manager of tho Union Bank, Wellington, liar not reached its destination, and it is supposed has been stolen. It contained two crossed Government cheques, one for £25 on the Bank of New Zealand, Greytown, No. 1835, the other for

£4l 13s. 4d. on the Bank of New Zealand, Featherston, No. 616, both signed by J. Holmes, and countersigned by Herbert S. Warded, and two £5 notes ; the property of Herbert Samuel Warded. Cheques identifiable.

Stolen about the 14th ultimo, from the meat-safe of George Hewitt, Majoribank Street, Wellington, a leg and loin of mutton, a leg of pork, and about 14 lb. of beef; value 10s.

Stolen on tho 9th ultimo, at Ashburton, eight fowls ; the property of George Kidd; value £1 ss. One identifiable.

Stolen about the 2nd ultimo, from a clothes-line at Green Island, two common linen table-cloths, two large twill sheets, a bath towel, a swansdown under shirt, a small white blanket with blue-and-yellow stripes at ends, a plain night-dress, and three calico pillow-slips, the property of William C. Norman, value £1 18s., identifiable; and a night-dress with fancywork on neck and breast, and two pairs of white-cotton stockings, the property of Jane E. Shand, value 95., identifiable.

Stolen between the 30th of May and 3rd ultimo, from Wyndham Street, Auckland, a pickaxe, newly laid with steel, OJ stamped on iron, and a nearly-new shovel, lIN marked on flat part of head; the property of Joseph Neylon ; value 15s. Identifiable.

Stolen on tho 13th ultimo, on board the steamer “Albion,” at Wellington, a double-breasted rough black overcoat, two side pockets with flaps, and an inside left-breast pocket, red-and-black woollen lining, and black-cloth buttons ; the property of Thomas Dennard ; value £2. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 27th of March last, from Herbert, a yellow bull-and-mastiff dog, with a piece out of right ear, answers to the name “ Boatswain the property of Bichard Donaldson ; value £5. Identifiable. On the 19th of May a dog answering the description was seen tied up at a woolshed which was being built near the Pigroot Hotel.

Stolen on the 10th ultimo, from the cart of Selwyn Davies, at Christchurch, a nearly-new carters’ whip, brown leather lash about 3 feet 6 inches long, handle 3 feet 9 inches long, covered with brown leather, with six or seven white-metal rings thereon ; value 12s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 11th ultimo, at Wanganui, twenty-nine fathoms of fishing-net rope, with a quantity of cork and lead attached ; the property of John Leaois; value £1 2s. Lead identifiable.

Stolen about the 19th ultimo, from a clothes-line in Durham Street, Christchurch, five cotton coloured shirts, a black-and-white Crimean shirt, two black-and-white boys’ Crimean shirts, a white-flannel singlet, and a -flannel petticoat; the property of Henry Scrimshaw ; value £3. Identification doubtful.

Stolen about the 19th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Ellen Russell, at Wanganui, a blue serge trousers, a flannel shirt, and a coloured shirt; value £1 6s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 17th ultimo, on board the steamer “ Tui,” at Piclon, a black-morocco-leather pocketbook, two leaves torn out of centre, containing six £lO notes, a £5 note, two £1 notes, and a half-sovereign with a hole in it; the property of Maurice O’Shea. Pocketbook identifiable.

Stolen on the 18th ultimo, from the fowlhouse of Elizabeth Sharpies, Victoria Street, Christchurch, a black-and-white speckled hen ; value 2s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the sth ultimo, at Hawera, four double-strap gate hinges, about 12 inches long, 2 inches wide, and a 5 inch thick, with two bolts and nuts for each hinge ; the property of Mrs. Harkness. Identification doubtful. The hinges were stolen off a gate, which was broken in removing them.

Stolen about the 16th ultimo, from a shed in the yard of Walter Johnson, St. Asaph Street, Christchurch, a nearly-new pair of lace boots, kid uppers, double soles without nails, a lace only in one ; value £1 4s. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the sth ultimo, from the garden of Thomas Quaile, at Blueskin, five apple trees, three years old; value £25. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 10th of May and 18th ultimo, from near a new building in Wellington Street, Auckland, about 400 feet of timber, consisting of scantling and boards for building; the property of John William Hewson; value £2 10s.

Stolen about the 19th ultimo, from a clothes-line at Ngaruawahia, a pair of light-tweed trousers, faded, a rent about an inch long in right side of seat which has been mended ; the property of Thomas Cleaver; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from the billiard-room of the Provincial Hotel, Auckland, seven billiard balls ; the property of George Weightman; value £3 10s.

Stolen during the past twelve months, from the railway line at Auckland and Ohaupo, eight railway tarpaulins, numbered respectively 22, 52, 109, 158, 167, 193, 194, and 195 ; the property of the Government. Identifiable.
