Horse and Cattle Stealing.
(See Police Gazette, 1878, page 69.) .The horse,> the property of Francis Bothell, reported stolen from Waitakerie East, has been found straying.
Stolen on the 9th ultimo, from Whau, near Auckland, a black saddle mare, about 15 hands high, hair rubbed off top of rump, branded R on near shoulder; had on an old saddle with pummel split and leather off one of knee pads, and an old bridle the property of James Robert Walters; value £ll 10s. Identifiable.
Stolen during the night of the 27th ultimo, from Carnarvon, between Foxton and Sandon, Wellington District, a dark-brown gelding, saddle breed, aged, 15 hands high, branded in diamond on near shoulder; the property of Thomas Coyle; value £B. Identifiable. Mr. Coyle tethered this horse on the road-side near his house on the night of the 27th ultimo, and at G o’clock on the following morning the animal could not be found. Near where the horse was tethered he found a grey gelding, unbranded, which appeared to have been severely ridden, and was spur-marked.
