House-Breaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

On the morning of the 20th ultimo, the drapers’ shop of W. B. Girling and Co., at Blenheim, was broken into and a drawer in the shop forced open with a chisel, and tlireo halfsovereigns and about £3 10s. in silver and copper stolen therefrom. Messrs. Girling and Co. offer £2O reward for information that will lead to the conviction of the offender.

John Brooks, charged with having stolen a gold chain from the dwelling of Charles Boyd, has been arrested by the Hurunui Police, and committed for trial.

Stolen about the Bth ultimo, from the dwelling of Edward John Moflitt, at Newcastle, Auckland District, a gold signet ring with blood-stone in claw setting, a lion rampant, and “Pi ct virtute ” engraved on stone ; value £4. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 13th ultimo, from the person of James Kerby, in Henry’s Boardinghouse, Waimate, an English silver lever hunting watch with brass hands, a dent in back case, maker’s name on dial, brass albert guard attached ; value £6. Suspicion attached to a man known as “White-haired Bob,” a native of London, labourer, about thirty years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, white hair ; small white whiskers, beard, and moustache; fresh complexion, weak grey eyes; wore grey-tweed coat, moleskin trousers with knee straps, and black wide-awake hat ; addicted to drink. He is supposed to have gone towards Timaru.

Stolen on the 20th ultimo, from the dwelling of Henry Reynolds, South Street, Newton, Auckland, a hunting silver lever watch, number 23356, maker’s name not known, hair guard and gold seal with red cornelian, with J.S. engraved thereon attached ; value £6. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 15th ultimo, from the dwelling of a Mrs. Whittaker, Serpentine Avenue, Dunedin, a ladies’ gold openface geneva watch, considerably worn, a dinge in case near centre, a ladies’ gold chain, small round-link pattern, to which was attached an oval-shaped amethyst stone in gold, a gold pencilcase three inches long, and a small English gold watchkey with turquoise set round the top ; value £l2. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, in the dwelling of William Wilson, George Street, Dunedin, a silver lever hunting watch, (maker, Bower, Timaru), No. 67760, rope-link pattern gold albert guard attached, the property of John Payne ; value £l6.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to William Wilson, Irish, a carpenter, forty-five years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair turning grey, cheeks cleanshaved, small grey beard on chin.

Stolen about the 30th May, 1877, from a bedroom in the Inglewood Hotel, at Inglewood, a purse containing about £9, a gold signet ring with purple stone, with lion rampant and “ Go on and take care ” thereon, a gold -wedding ring and keeper, three gold shirt studs, a collar stud, and sleeve links; the property of Joseph Thompson. Signet ring, shirt studs, and sleeve links identifiable. Suspicion attached to a Mrs. Tucker, English, a milliner, dark hair and eyes, medium height and build, dark complexion, cocked nose. She is at present residing at Hew Plymouth.

Stolen on the 23rd ultimo, from the shop of On Lee, St. Andrew Street, Dunedin, thirty-six yards of insertion one and a quarter inches wide, rolled on card-board about two feet long, and a ladies’ morocco - leather hand bag; value £1 14s. fid. Identifiable. A boy, name unknown, was seen running out of the shop with the articles. Description: About sixteen years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high ; wore dark clothes.

Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from the dwelling of Hans Peter Hanriclisen, at Sydenham, near Christchurch, two single white blankets, a double grey blanket with black border, and a common blue-and-white quilt with a black ink-like stain on one corner ; value £2 10s. Quilt identifiable.

Stolen on the sth ultimo, from the dwelling of Englherth Steiert, Hayes Creek, near Arrowtown, a nearly new dark-grey tweed frock coat, coarse material, black horn buttons; value £2. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to George Robson, English, a butcher, 5 feet 10 inches high, active build, pale complexion, dark eyes, hair turning grey, goatee and moustache. He has gone to Queenstown.

Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from the Morning Herald, office, Princes Street, Dunedin, a black Irish frieze overcoat, flap pockets on hips, an inside left-breast pocket, lined with common cashmere, lining torn near tail the property of William Thompson; value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen between the Ist February last and the 6th ultimo, from the Pacific Hotel, Queen Street, Auckland, thirty-eight sovereigns and two large silver table forks, marked T.E.E. on back of handles; value £1; the property of Grace Chapman. Forks identifiable.

Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from the Northern Club, Auckland, a case of brandy containing twelve bottles, labelled “ Grande Champagne, Bisquit Dubouchc & C 0.,” “ Bisquit Dubouche & Co., Cognac,” stamped on side of case, and a shield and man’s head on end; the property of Burton Davcney. Identification doubtful.

During the night of the 20tli ultimo, the dairy of Mrs. Stewart, at Barry’s Bay, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury District, was broken into, and six rolls of cheese, value £7, stolen therefrom.

Stolen on the 20lh ultimo, from the dwelling of William Kennedy, South Street, Newton, Auckland, a common brownleather purse, containing three £1 notes and a half crown, three night-dresses, marked “ Mrs. C. Roach ;” value 15s. Identifiable.
