Incendiarism.

William ' Sanford, has been arrested by Sergeant James O’Mally, Geraldine police, and committed for trial, for having, on the Ist July last, at Bangitata Island, Canterbury District, set. fire to a three-roomed cottage, the property of W. K. McDonald.

At 9 p.m. on the 14th ultimo, a stack of straw, the property .of Richard Stenhouse, situate at Groper’s Bush, near Riverton', Otago District, was discovered on fire, by which it was destroyed. At an inquest held on the 20th ultimo, to inquire as to the cause of the . origin of the fire, the following verdict was returned: “ That some person or persons unknown, wilfully, feloniously, and maliciously set the stack of straw on fire.” Suspicion attached to Bridget alias Mary Ann McCoy, who is at present residing at Groper’s Bush.
