MANAWATU CROQUET ASSOCIATION.

At a meeting held at Palmerston North the above croquet association was formally inaugurated. Members weie present representing all the chibs in the district, and Mr.' Pollock, cf Levin, having been voted to the chair he explained the necessity of Laving a local association formed by r.ll the local clubs, so that the members could get to know one another and a general interchange of ideas and match play could take place. He had pleasure in moving that the association be formally inaugurated. This was seconded by Mrs. McCallan, of Dannevirke, and carried unanimously. it was also resolved to affiliate with the New Zealand Council, and the various clubs would pay a levy of Is. per member on last year’s roll to that body. The following officers were duly elected: —Patron, Mr. C. F. Spooner; president, Mr. F. J. Nathan; vicepresidents, one from each club to be elected by their own members; hon. secretary and treasurer. Mr. C. E. Ferguson, Box 164 Palmerston North. During the afternoon many enjoyable inter-club games were played, of which the following are the results: Mrs. Robertshaw and Mrs. Glass (Dannevirke) beat Mrs. Baxter and Mrs. Mcßae (Manawatu), and also drew with Dr. Whitaker and Mrs. Mcßae, time preventing a finish; Mrs. Nymand and -Mrs. Harris (Dannevirke) beat Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Paterson (Manawatu); Mrs. Fitzherbert and Mrs. Brown (Manawatu) beat Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Shepherd (Woodville); Mrs. Corbridge and Mrs. Wilson (Manawatu) beat

Altogether a very enjoyable day was spent, and the visitors on leaving expressed their heai ty thanks to the ladies of. the Manawatu Club for their hospitality. It was resolved to hold club meetings in the various centres on the first Wednesday in every month, with the exception of January, during which month the North Island championship meeting will be held in Palmerston North.
