POVERTY BAY TROTTING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Trotting Club was presided over by Dr. C. F. Scott. In moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet, which was carried, the, chairman referred to the sound position of the clqb, and congratulated it on the past year’s workings. Like all branches of sport, trotting had not pushed into prominence during the war, but now that the was was over the prospects were bright for the future. The balance-sheet showed liabilities to the amount of £B3, while the assets totalled £383 3s. 9d. The statement for 22 months, ending July 31, 1919, showed that the expenditure amounted to £l2OB 6s. 4d., and the receipts to be £1252 10s. 2d., leaving a profit of £44 3s. lOd. The main items in the receipts were: Nominations and acceptances £125 10s., subscriptions £236 55., totalisator receipts £750 75., gates £9O 10s. 6d., privileges

£35, - interest £l4 17s. Bd. - The expenditure included: Stakes £505 and Government tax £342 Bs. 2d. Officers were elected as follows: Patrons, Sir James Carroll, M.P., Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald, M.P., and Messrs. D. J. Barry, H. de Lautour, G. Matthewson, F. J. Lysnar, C. Neenan, J. W. Nolan, G. W. Primrose and K. S. Williams; president, Dr. C. F. Scott; vice-president, Mr. G. E, Jones; committee, Messrs. R. Campbell, T. C. Dorn. J. Greentree, G. Haapu, W. Howard, A. Langford, J. Riddell, B. Smith, A. T. Webb, G. S. Woods, R. Fisken and G. W. Primrose.

A telegram from one of the Coast members of the committee suggesting that £lOOO should be the total given in stakes this year, and antimating that if a £250 stake for the Poverty Bay. Trotting Cup was given, a £7O cup would be donated, was left to the committee to attend to. Mr. Gilbert Jones mentioned the matter of. obtaining. permission from the racing . club to form an inner course for trotting. The president said that when the finances were

larger the matter could be considered. At present they were fortunate in being allowed to use the park with all its equipment and appointments. The course gave satisfaction to the public and the owners. A suggestion to alter the date of the meeting to one after the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting did not meet with approval, it being considered that winter trotting was not too sat- . isfactory in Gisborne. The motion of Mr. A. T. Webb, seconded by Mr. Lougher, that the committee be recommended to increase the stakes to a total of £BOO, an increase of £295 on the present • money, was carried unanimously. Votes of thanks for services rendered to the club were accorded to the Gisborne Racing Club, Dr. Scott and Messrs. K. S. Williams, E. Pardoe and T. C. Dorn.
