WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB.

AUTUMN MEETING.

Much interest is being taken in the meeting of this popular metropolitan club, which is to commence on Thursday and to conclude on Saturday. The Wanganui Cup is always a leading attraction, as it is one of the oldest-established in the Island, and so many good horses have won it. The Jackson Stakes has been a set event for years, and it has been won by some first-class performers and by a number of leading owners, some of whom are as desirous as ever of trying to win it again. The late Mr. G. G. Stead won the race four times, Mr. J. Monk won it three times in succession with Achilles, Mr. W. E. Bidwill twice, Mr. “Highden” once, Sir George Clifford once, Messrs. W. G. and G. L. Stead and Mr. G. D. Greenwood once in co-partnership, and Mr. T. H. Lowry once, while Mr. G. D. Greenwood has won it on five occasions, and his trainer, R. J. Mason, has trained nine of the winners. The Wanganui Guineas, until last year run in the spring, is another race full of interest. Mr. Lowry has won it twice in successive years, and Mr. Greenwood has won it twice. These and other owners are to be represented this week.
