Art Recommissioned for Autumn Jumping Events — Tip Up Joins Ranks of Hurdlers— Adjutant to be Treated to Spell—Notes on the Dunedin Meeting—Rorke’s Drift Wins Cup a Second Time —Glendower Runs With 111-luck.

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Several Riccarton trainers wno took teams to Dunedin returned home to-day. Others intend breaking their journey at Oamaru for the North • Otago meeting on Thursday and Friday. After being off the tracks for several months Art has been taken in (hand again by E. Scoullar. The Sarto gelding looks in excellent trim to commence his preparation for autumn racing. Tip Up is the latest recruit to the ranks of hurdle racers. He is a good weight carrier, but may never shine over lengthy courses. Riccarton stables will be strongly represented at the North Otago meeting as besides those trainers who were at Wingatui, R. Longley and R. Emerson intend taking a couple of horses down. After his exertions at Methven Adjutant was turned out for a wellearned spell. Under the circumstances he can be regarded as a doubtful starter at the North Otago meeting. When contesting the Hazlett Memorial Plate at Wingatui Punka damaged one of her shoulders, and will probably be spelled on her return to Riccarton. Miss. Mimic, who credited Sir Geo. Cliff-ord with his fifth successive win in the Dunedin Champagne Stakes, is a very speedy daughter of Sanguhar and Counterfeit. Altogether, .Chokebore-trained horses have won the race under notice on 13 occasions. Rorke’s Drift put up two of the best races of his career at the Dunedin meeting, and is always a much better horse at Wingatui than on any other course. 'ln this respect it need only be mentioned that at Wingatui he has won the Dunedin Cup twice, the Dunedin Birthday Handicap twice, and the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap.

It was a very poor lot of jumpers that contested the two hurdle races at Wingatui, both of which went to Riccarton representatives in Vascular and Euripos. The latter is still anything but an accomplished fencer, but with more experience his fine turn of pace on the flat should enable him to win in more pretentious company. Glendower was decidedly unlucky at the Dunedin meeting, as he acted as runner-up in both the big handicaps. On Saturday he suffered a good deal of interference in the early stages, but under no circumstances could have defeated Rose Pink, who was improved by her first day’s race. The starting on the second day of the Dunedin meeting was far from satisfactory, at least two events being spoilt by faulty despatches. In the Jockey Club Handicap several of the competitors were badly left, Burrangong being turned the wrong way when the barrier lifted. Rose Pink got the advantage of the start; and though some of ‘the others closed on her at the entrance to the straight she came away again and won with ridiculous ease. When raced at Trentham the Kilbroney mare looked decidedly overdone. In the meantime she has freshened up nicely, and looks like racing well for several meetings. In the Flying Handicap Pyjama got away to a flying start, and at the end of two furlongs looked a certain winner. By a great “final effort Buller just got up in time to win by a head. Much the same thing was witnessed in the Waihola Handicap, Bon Spec breaking through the barrier and taking the tapes with him. This made his task particularly easy, but so bad was the send-off that the stewards would not allow the winner to enter the paddock until the starter had declared it a start. Southern owners will not be strongly represented at the Wanganui meeting, as it clashes with the North Otago fixture. Recent form points to G-loaming adding another two races to his imposing score.
