The cable says that the Villiers Stakes produced an extraordinary event. Owing to confusion of the colours the judge placed Panacre third, whereas Sydney Damsel was actually third. Panacre was about fourteenth. The mistake was not noticed in time to rectify it
Mr. G. A. Palmer, of Upper Hutt, who raced Grit Lawless and Ormesby, is ( working a four-year-old filly by Maniapoto that handles herself well on the track. She joins the Ladoga Lodge team after the New Year, but will not be required to race until the autumn.
Extensive improvements are contemplated on the Trentham racecourse in the near future, it being intended by the Wellington Racing Club to erect new buildings, which will be situated 30ft. further back than the structures at present in evidence. An improved water service for use in case of fire has been laid on to the course, while when the new totalisator is installed the club will have its own electric light service. The buildings to be erected will be of a most up-to-date design, providing greatly increased accommodation, bringing the appointments at x Trentham up to a standard, equal to the very best in existence in the Dominion.
