SPRING MEETING.

The Auckland, Trotting Club will open the trotting season in the northern centre on October 19, when the spring programme of eight well endowed events will be decided at Alexandra Park. Taking the success of the club’s operations during the past season as a guide, there is every reason to anticipate fresh records being established at the trotting meetings held at Alexandra Park during the 1918-19 season. Next month’s gathering of the Auckland Trotting Club should meet with a very wide measure of patronage from trotting owners, for in the case of every event the stake money has-been materially increased. The. chief event, the Spring Handicap (harness), two miles, limit 4.42, has been raised in value from 250 to. 450sovs, and should attract a representative field from the strongest trotting centres. The October Handicap (harness), one mile and a-quarter, limit 2.54, is now worth 200 so vs, while the Onehunga Handicap (harness), two miles, limit 4.52, carries a 150sovs stake. The Mountain Trot Handicap (harness), one mile and ahalf, limit 3.48, for trotting horses only, has been increased in value from 130 to 200sovs, showing that the club’s policy is to give every encouragement to straight-out trotters. The other events to claim attention are the Maiden Trot Handicap (saddle), of lOOsovs, one mile and a-half; Middle-class Handicap (harness) of lOOsovS, one mile and a-half; Stewards’ Handicap (saddle), of 125sovs, one mile; and the Electric Handicap (harness), of 125 sovs, one mile.
