Deeley had three winning rides on the second day of the Hamilton meeting, and brought his -winning score there up to five. R. Reed came out with three w.ns, and Robinson a like number for the meeting.

Rebel, winner of the Te Kowhai Welter Handicap on the second day of the Hamilton meeting, met with a mixed reception when he won. The win was unexpected by most people after his form in the Hamilton Cup.

General Joffre, who ran second to Glenspire n the Farewell Handicap at Hamilton and paid a two-figure dividend, got cut about at the previous meeting at which he ran, and his owner had not intended sending him to Hamilton in consequence, but he got over his troubles quickly. /He is, however, not fulfilling early promise.

Bookmakers and the totalisator are likely to work side by side in Holland once more, the law having been repealed which forbade bookmakers either operating on racecourses or away from them.

There were seventeen starters in the Maiden Plate at Hamilton on the second day, and only three carried their original handicap weights. Nine carried overweight ranging up to 131 b., and for five apprentices allowances were claimed of 51b.

Racing clubs should maintain a buoyant spirit and not encourage the “killjoys” who are seeking to get racing closed down. Tt Aroha could lend a few horses all round to those clubs in the South that are not having too good a time just now. Fancy 163 horses being entered for the coming meeting, and 444 entries in all for the 16 races, an average of 27 per race!
