TURF PRIZE MONEY IN AUSTRALIA.

If it were possible to get a return of the pr'ze money paid to horseowners within the State of New South Wales during the past year, the figures would be sufficiently large to surprise even those who fancy they know the resources of race clubs, says the “Daily Telegraph.’’ The amount would probably prove to be a record. But what is known is that among them this season —and the war has been on all the time — the “pony” clubs operating around Sydney paid £52,664 Ti prize money for 70 days’ racing, while the 30 days which the two trotting clubs raced upon produced £10,690, so that horse-owners who kept those meetings going were well looked after. But the figures are much bigger in proportion when the registered clubs come to be analysed. The

A.J.C. raced upon 20 days, and paid to horse-owners £97,344; while Tattersall’s Club, City Tattersail’s, Hawkesbury, and the four proprietary clubs within the metropolitan area increased the total to £145,915.
