OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB.
SUMMER MEETING. Devotees of light harness racing, which has made such remarkable strides in Auckland during the past few years, have but a month to wait for the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s summer meeting, which is to be held at
Alexandra Park on February 25 and 28. The club are giving away liberal prize money, so that the gathering should attract a record number of horses, owners being generously catered for. It speaks well for the go-ahead policy of the club that only four races figure on the programme which are worth less than £lOO, the increased stakes being a strong inducement to visiting owners to make the trip North.
Ihe principal event on the opening day is the Dominion Handicap (Harness), two miles, of 200sovs., which, it is safe to say, will attract an excellent entry. The Mt. Albert Handicap (Harness), one mile, of 150sovs., also figures on the first day’s programme, so that mile performers have been well looked after in the distribution of stake money. Four £lOO races will also come up for decision on the first day, and the success of the meeting appears to be assured. The Otahuhu Trotting Cup (Harness), two miles, of £250, is to be decided on the second day, and in view of the increased popularity of trotting in Auckland there should be a very big crowd present on Saturday, February 28, to witness the running of this event. The Exhibition Handicap (Saddle), one mile, of £l5O, is tc be run on the same afternoon, in addition to which four £lOO handicaps will also be decided. The programme is, indeed, an attractive one, and should ensure a good response from trotting owners. Nominations for all events on both days close with the secretary, Mr. F. D. Yonge, at his office, Vulcan Lane, on Friday, February 6, at 9 p.m.
